Donnie Jones is a good punter. It remains to be seen wether we will miss his services or not but IMO letting him go is a mistake. Punter is not the most important position on the field but it sure helps to have a good punter.

Donnie Jones did do an excellent job last year, but it sounds like Mueller sees punters to be had as undrafted free agents. It would NOT make sense for Miami to use a 7th round draft pick for a punter.

I'm a little surprised but not shocked by this move. Mueller obviously has his reasons, but to me, it seems that's just one more hole we have to fill before TC.. Interesting...

I disagree with being a good punter. Donnie was a very average punter who has a very strong leg but was very inconsistent. Miami had one of the best coverage units in 2005 and it really showed in Donnie's net average (39.3). Last year the st's unit weren't as good with the loss of Bryan Gilmore and Sammy Morris (gunners) but Donnie was way too inconsistent on his kicks to be considered anything but average. His net average was 35.7 which had him in the bottom half of the NFL. Please don't get me wrong I was happy with 2005 Donnie being our kicker but with 5yr/5 mill on the table we just couldn't match the offer with the Donnie of 2006. 5yr/5 mill are offers made to great top tier punters not slightly good or average ones.

Heres to hoping we can use one of our 6th rounders or 7th rounders and finding someone to fill his shoes.

yes we desprately need a 7th rounder pick in replace of a 26 year old good starter..

im with you. NOW EVRYEONE thinks we can find a COLSTON in the late rounds same way NE came away iwth Brady.

what is that? 2 "good and one VERY good" player in the 6-7 rounds or whatever in what 7 years? now those are good odds right there.
