Dolphins defense among the best. worst in the league

We may be good against the run but only 3 teams have given up more TD's than us. We suck at protecting against the pass, particularly in the red zone.

Though the Dolphins are fourth-best in the NFL in yards allowed and also strong against the run, it is being offset by their inability to stop the big play.

This week, I would simply like to see the secondary not embarrass us with a bunch of blown coverages and big TD passes from Favre. We don't need to be helping Favre catch up to Marino's TD record. Last week definitely showed that our defense tends to giving up the big pass play for TDs. I do NOT want to see our secondary be the "Joke of the Week" this week. Coach Saban might completely "lose it" on the sidelines if they do. :tantrum:

"The Dolphins secondary. Remember when Sam Madison and Patrick Surtain were in their prime and no one could pass the ball on the Dolphins? Seems like a long time ago. Nick Saban is supposed to be a genius at getting the most out of defensive backs, but their play against the Jets, particularly Laveranues Coles, was tragic.

Right corner Eddie Jackson got beat for a 58-yard touchdown by Coles when he bit on… well, when he bit on nothing. He jumped the route while Chad Pennington was looking to his right. By the time Pennington looked back to his left, Coles was running free 20 yards behind Jackson. Later, safety Tavares Tillman was embarrassed on a jump ball in the end zone when he got beaten for a 20-yard touchdown despite being two inches taller than Coles. (That play might cost Tillman his starting job.) In between the two TDs, Coles also caught a key first-down pass when safety Renaldo Hill squandered his perfect coverage by failing to turn around on the throw."

pass interference calls are not factored into the stats and we do have a knack for commiting them at the worst possible times. But Nicky says not to worry: it's simply "bad technique" which is correctable. Nick needs time to turn this thing around 5, 10 years whatever it takes because i believe.

Coles wasn't doing anything until Goodman was knocked out of the game.......

I think we would all rather be leading the league in scoring defense, than yards allowed.

You're 100% right. I do hate me some Eddie Jackson.

People also forget that Daniels has missed most of the season, with Poole missing the entire season. There were a lot of people that thought Will Poole would beat out Travis Daniels for the #2 cornerback spot; if not for injuries Andre Goodman was likely our #4 cornerback. If not for injuries Eddie Jackson would've been our #5 cornerback (he wouldn't even be out in dime packages if it weren't for injuries) and Michael Lehan wouldn't even be on the team. Eddie Jackson and Michael Lehan make Andre Goodman look like Sam Madison in his prime; think how much better our secondary would look if Will Allen/Will Poole/Travis Daniels/Andre Goodman were our #1-4 corners as opposed to Will Allen/Andre Goodman/Eddie Jackson/Michael Lehan.

Who cares?

You can't complain about the defense. Regardless of the big plays, they have kept us in the games while the offense does their nails and plays pattycake for three quarters. 3 points through three quarters against the Jets with that aweful run defense? That's pathetic my friends. Yeah the big plays are frustrating, but if the offense could actually score more than 17 points in a game, no one would be complaining.

Don't see how you can give the defense a pass for giving up 14 points on easily defended plays. They stop those plays we win the game. Seems rather hypocritical to throw it all on the offense.

I've seen the Jags beat Pitt with only 9 points on the board...defense is just as much responsible for winning games as the offense is.

This is a joke right?

Our offense put up 15 points against HOUSTON!!!!
13 against tennessee
6 against buffalo

You're telling me it's not all on the offense?

Sure the defense has had its moments, but there is no way we aren't at least 4-2 if the offense could find some sort of firepower. It's the o-line, the qb, the rb, and our top 2 recievers. They all need to step up, they have not. Wes has stepped up.

Our defense has been playing great, and because they are on the field 65% in each game, they get tired. What do you expect when your offense is a perpetual 3 and out.

No, it's dead serious. The defense plays as big a part in winning games as the offense does.

The only game you could blame on the defense is the opener. Other than that, we havent scored more than 17 in a game, more than 2 tds in a game. We play well in the 4th quarter. JT is having another monster year, and ZT is leading the AFC in tackles. I'm sorry, but blaming our offense is like blaming Dom Capers for bad play calling. No, Dom isn't perfect, but Mularkey is the goat.

Your entirely missing the point here. So I will just leave it at this, If our secondary doesn't give up 14 points on easily defended plays vs. the Jets we finish that game 17-6 Fins win.

When your offense is struggling a good defense picks up the slack, look at the Bears vs Cardinals Bears scored 0 points on Offense and still beat the Cards.

I dont expect the Dolphins D to play like that, that was an extraordinary effort by the Bears D however I do expect the Dolphins secondary to at least not be an embarrasment out there on the field. They failed my expectations in the Jets game.
