Dolphins did not tender restricted free agent RB Lex Hilliard.

Though he was a favorite of the Tony Sparano coaching staff, Hilliard never assumed more than a special teams role in Miami. His exit gives CFL import Jerome Messam a better chance to make the 2012 roster.

Not too surprising after the signing of Messam.
 
I think Lex should stick around as a fullback for us, he isn't a god awful blocker and can get those 3rd & shorts. Move him to FB and Clay to TE

I'd prefer we get a real FB and not rely on a "not godawful" one. Hilliard didn't bring anything that couldn't be easily replaced.
 
Who would you replace him with (assuming we did move him to fullback?) I'm no expert but I thought he did an okay job and I don't think he's highly paid. Is it that much of a priority at this time?

Any other run of the mill back up runningback. Not that big of a deal. Do you honestly believe he's irreplaceable? Some just have a hard time letting go of anybody wearing aqua and orange. If he was on any other team, you likely wouldn't know who he was.
 
Not a surprise..I wish he would have got more playing time as a ball carrier but what can you do..I wonder if he ends up with the Jets.
 
No biggie. I have a feeling Messam is going to be all that Hilliard was, and much more. As far as the poster who said Messam wasn't going to make the team, I'd like to hear your reasoning. We get rid of Hilliard, so I'm curious as to who DOES make the team, if not Messam
