The Dolphins do not want to give up the number of picks that would be required to move up from the ninth spot to even think about drafting Wisconsin offensive tackle Joe Thomas, sources said.

I wouldn't do it! We need to trade for more picks! Plenty of depth at the OL position in this draft.

Your title is misleading. The quote says they are not thinking about it.

I am confused????..Your Title states that the Dolphins are thinking about moving up to select Thomas and the article you quote clearly states that they do not want to...and then you state that they should not do it either..

Any time you give up that many picks to move up, its for a skill player-someone who actually touches the ball. That means QB, RB, or an exceptional WR (like Calvin Johnson). OT don't touch the ball.

Well it seems like they've thought about it enough to engaged in conversations. But I changed the title for anyone who was "MISLEADED" into clicking on this thread.

EXACTLY!! Who in their right mind would trade up to get a Lineman? If we traded up for a guarantee at Quinn, THAT would be a different story!

I would not trade up to draft an o-lineman. Especially an o-lineman from Wisconsin. Their o-linemen have hardly ever panned out in the NFL. I have seen him play and he is all finesse. He is NOT physical and is not the tenacious guy we need on the o-line. I wouldn't want him.

To move up from #9 to the one of the first three positions would cost too much, even for a skill position. Look at the Giants in 2004. They swapped Phillip Rivers (their 2004 1st rounder -- #4) and their 2005 1st rounder plus a 3rd rounder (and maybe another pick) to get Eli Manning. San Diego turned those three picks into three Pro Bowlers (Rivers, Merriman, Kaeding) and Eli's been stalled at about the same inconsistent level he was in during the second half of his second year -- spurts of brilliance coupled with absolutely horrendous play. I think all of the other 2004 first round QBs, Pro Bowler-as-first-year-starter Phillip Rivers, much-maligned JP Losman, and I'm-too-stupid-to-wear-a-helmet Ben Roethlisberger, are considered miles ahead of Eli in their development going into 2007. In fact, there are some whispers of Eli being a "bust" floating about in some corners ... this may be Eli's make or break season.

The moral of the story is that it's stupid for teams to "fall in love with" a particular draftee and sacrifice their futures for one player.

I agree with the fins. Why trade up for a guy that's there every year just with a different face.

I think ... much-maligned JP Losman...(is) considered miles ahead of Eli in (his) development going into 2007.

I believe I paraphrased this correctly...and all I have to say is...wow.

Thomas is not an elite LT the way Walter Jones, Jonathan Ogden, or even D'Brickashaw Ferguson were. He's the top dog in a weak LT year. Not worth trading up for. Only guys worth trading up for are Calvin Johnson and Brady Quinn.

But would they trade up for CJ??

But would they trade up for CJ??

If we trade up to #5 I feel like we have a real shot at CJ or Thomas because with recent FA and trades I see the top of the draft going like this:

Oakland: Russell (I'm going to keep saying this until Moss is gone)
Detroit: Quinn (with Adams as a huge possibility)
Cleveland: Peterson (Lewis only signed a one year deal and Adrian is a franchise back in every sense of the word)
Tampa: Thomas or CJ

That would leave either Thomas or CJ at #5 and personally I would trade up to have CJ on my team. Remember all the hype Fitzgerald got? Watching Calvin the last few years has made me say Larry Fitz-who? Calvin is going to be a top 3 NFL WR within two years.

We need to keep our picks, moving up to select Thomas would be too much.

why move up when Levi Brown could be your guy? I dont get it. Brown is getting a bad rap by Mayock and others. The dude is a road grader LT type. A staley or someone else will not be starting at LT. Brown would.
