The television show “Hard Knocks” has become a staple of the NFL offseason as they go behind the scenes of an NFL training camp. They have announced that in 2012 they will follow the Miami Dolphins and the players are not very happy about it. Players from throughout the league who have participated in the documentary series have said it has been a disruption in their preparation for the upcoming season. Even though head coach Joe Philbin stated that the filming was a “football decision” rather than a marketing one, players will not like the cameras around as they prepare for the upcoming season.

The filming dispute is in addition to front office decisions by the Dolphins that have made the team seem considerably weaker. After saying they would whatever it would take to convince quarterback Peyton Manning to join the team, they failed to acquire him or Alex Smith. In addition to failing to acquire a top quarterback, they traded pro bowl wide receiver Brandon Marshall for just two third-round draft picks.

With the Dolphins effectively self-destructing through poor roster decisions and upsetting players on their current roster, the Dolphins seem doomed for a tough 2012 season. As for the Jets, their front officeseemsto have created an unnecessary controversy that will likely consume the majority of their season. Two teams that could have threatened the Patriots seem to have taken themselves out of the running leaving the Patriots to dominate the AFC East in 2012.

Anything said about the upcoming season is totaly premature... Brady may wake up on the wrong side of the bed and damage himself for the season... the devision is then up for grabs... NO ONE KNOWS AT THIS POINT IN TIME... Hard Knocks may be good for us... who knows... thats why they play the games...

People from the outside have no idea about this team. Local sports writers are starting to come around to this team, so I think that counts for more...

The whole "failed to get Peyton Manning" thing is way over the top. Initially there were at least 10 teams that reached out to try to bring Manning to their team. Miami at least had a face to face meeting, the same can't be said for teams like the Jets, Seahawks, Chiefs, etc. Manning flat out told them no when they expressed interest. If Miami failed, so did Arizona, Tennessee and San Francisco.

Yes they didn't sign Alex Smith, but they never offered him a contract. In fact they decided to sign Garrard less than 24 hours after meeting with Smith. They did want Flynn, but not to be the clear cut starter or for starting money. Seattle simply offered him more money and probably more of a guarantee at the time to be the starter. Either the Seahawks lied to him or are not as impressed since Flynn is competing for the starting job with Jackson and a 3rd round rookie in Wilson.

I do understand the concern of trading of Marshall. Losing his talent created a big hole, and one that was not filled. Still though, two 3rd round picks is not horrendous value, though you always wish you could have got more. The one positive is that the west coast offense can help mask the fact that this team lacks a true #1 reciever.

Hard Knocks was never going to be liked by everyone. Having 90 people all like the idea was never going to happen. Doesn't mean that the team is going to lose games in the fall because of TV cameras in the summer.

This writer is right that the Patriots are likely going to win the division again, but Miami is not doomed for a poor season. Doesn't mean I think Miami will be great, but an 8-8 or 9-7 season is not a ridiculous prediction.

I'll do what I do every year: expect an undefeated season that ends with a Super Bowl win and adjust my expectations every time we lose until they are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

During the off season any predictions based on "facts" are absolutely worthless so I'll just keep hoping for the best.

Once again, not really sure why anybody bothers to read this kind of crap, let alone get annoyed by it. Might as well go into random fan sites and post messages from their message boards.

This.
I think the only way Miami could have come out of that post-season Unscathed is if we signed Manning.
If we had signed Alex Smith, we'd be getting all kinds of smack-talk, Oh, He's Still a Bust!
Matt Flynn - He only played Good One Game! Miami's Stupid!

Really there was no winning move Miami could have made. Even if we got Manning, we'd still be getting ridiculed for having no WR's for him to throw to.

WHAT magazine?

Vapid writer scrawls stupid article in crayon.

We don't have to take this sort of minor leauge, bull**** abuse...
We've got literally, HUNDREDS of REAL sportswriters wanting to
abuse us.

****ing fartblossom

I like your post, but I don't get why Dolphin fans seem to think that Flynn was lied to or has not been impressive. Coach Carroll never promised Flynn the starting job. From the get go Carroll said it was going to be a competition and Jackson earned the opportunity to try and win the job. Carroll has always been about competition even in college as evidence by USC having what seemed to be 10 of the top rated high school RBs given scholarships when he was coach.

Carroll spoke to the media on a conference call Monday and said that he didn’t make Matt Flynn any promises about the starting job while courting him as a free agent. He’s not ready to make any promises at this point either.
