### In Todd McShay’s latest mock draft on ESPN.com, he has the Dolphins passing up UF cornerback Vernon Hargreaves to take UCLA linebacker Myles Jack at No. 8.

“Jack, who is still recovering from an early-season knee injury, didn't participate in drills at the combine,” McShay said. “But his tape shows a twitched-up athlete who thrives in coverage and can make plays all over the field versus the run. If the Dolphins are looking to add a much-needed playmaker to the second level, Jack is their best bet.”

The seven players McShay has going before Jack: Mississippi offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil; North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz; defensive ends DeForest Buckner (Oregon) and Joey Bosa (Ohio State); FSU DB Jalen Ramsey; Notre Dame offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley and Cal QB Jared Goff.

His picks 9 through 11: Hargreaves, Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott and Clemson defensive end Shaq Lawson.

### Rishard Matthews agrees with Greg Jennings that too many restrictions have been placed on Ryan Tannehill.

“When coach [Bill] Lazor was there, [Tannehill] really didn't have the flexibility he wanted,” Matthews told WQAM’s Joe Rose and Curtis Stevenson. “I don't know where the confusion was. I love coach Lazor and at times we were wondering why are plays [not] being audibled. I hope he gets that freedom in this new offense. Our second year, he had a lot of freedom.

“The staff now, they trust him, from what I'm hearing. I spoke to Ryan, and he's excited, too.”

Interesting that when asked about the problems with the offense, Matthews blamed not only consistency but also “creativity.”

I would hope mathews being in the o and in the building every day would know that when under lazor your coverage ids by design all come off of motion you cant check out...but that just goes to show how little some guys understand other than their direct assignments and responsibilities by position

Props to FH and a good amount of posters who were calling out Lazor's BS waaaay before it was spilled by the media and players.

Don't worry too much about Myles Jack's health. Pat Kirwan on Sirius NFL says he has no doubt that he's fine. Jack felt good enough to compete in the Combine drills but was advised not to push it. He will be back and fully healthy. This is not like Jaylon Smith scenario where he's looking at sitting for the year.

Matthews is one of the slower players on the team, which is why it took him so long to get on the field. He couldn't learn the playbook.

I love the way he plays though, still hopeful we can keep him around.

Is there any news on our 1st round pick resting in the caribe an and if this staff has any plans for him?

No because he is suspended so they can't technically have any contact with him, however I'm sure if he was itching on getting reinstated say like Ricky was you would be hearing something.

i like this scenario. i'm a fan of VHIII, but if it is between him and myles jack at number 8, i'm picking jack.

What second year?

Their (Tanny and Matthews) 2nd year in the league, which was under Sherman.

Yeah people forget he had a lot more responsibility running Sherman's O but rather go with the recent narrative that he's handcuffed cause he can't handle it. I've no doubt Tannehill has the intelligence to take everything on board and as he spends more time and gains familiarity with the new system I'd expect him to take that next step provided the rest of the O (line or receiver miscomms) don't crap the bed.

With a choice between Vernon Hargreaves and Myles Jack I guess you have to use some combination of how talented they are, how they fit with what you are looking to do, how big an effect they can have on a game and the long term salary value of their position. Those last two factors probably aren't too far off the same thing but if you have a choice between an OLB in a 4-3 and a CB if their talent is similar you have to go CB every time.

I can't help but wonder why

when Philbin & lazor were both gone

why the interim coach also limited what RT was being asked to do.

Dan did some serious tap dancing whenever he answered those questions in press conferences.
