Hey my fellow fin fans,

I know we will have a lot of speculation over the next 3 months over what we will do in the draft, so lets be realistic for a second.

History tells us that Parcells loves the big lineman. Our Oline was in better condition than our D-Line. I imagine Bill and Co. are thinking how do we field an aggresive team that can compete.
The problem I see is that if we do want to run a 3-4, not only do we not have a DT that can plug the middle, but we do not have the LBs to support them. Especially depth at LB.
Our draft can not address all of our needs as we already know, so FA is going to play a key role in how we draft.
If we pick up a FA DT, then count out Dorsey IMO.
Its easier to pick up a OL in the second round than it is an DT in the second, so lets keep Dorsey or Ellis as an option. Traylor is not the answer anymore.
I think on the D, DT is the biggest hole. I hope Paul Solia can fill the need and not be considered another wasted pick.

Secondary, is not as horrible as we think, finally Allen is coming on, and we have to give him a full year at his position. With one safety and a corner in the draft or FA we can field a decent secondary. Will Allen played well, but our depth needs work. I dont expect early picks here due to our needs elsewhere.

On Offense, we have real WR problems, I do expect Keyshawn to come in, but thats not enough. Expect 1 FA signing and an early draft pick on WR. Camarillo is very Welker like as a 4th WR. I would give Reed or Camarillo a chance before Hagan. Hagan has disappointed me terribly.

TE is another issue. I believe Peelle has earned a spot on this roster. Martin needs to be shown the door. But from my sig, you can see who I would like. We need a big TE regardless of who it is. I was a big Courtney Anderson believer and then we cut him.

The OL is missing 1-2 starters and some depth. Being that we are going to be a run first team, Expect one of our first 2 round picks to be an Olineman.
Sparano is an Oline guy, and I think he is telling Tuna, give me that one thing in order to play a decent offense. This applies to my big TE theory.

And finally QB, our favorite topic, We have only 1 QB on this team right now. Green being "Reached out to" made me sick. Beck deserves a full year. Bring in a FA to compete and draft a guy with a 3rd or later pick at the most. Beck played in horrible conditions last year. He should do much better with a year under his belt. The people who judge him on last year need to look at Mannings first year. (Both Mannings)

This is my humble opinion on what we can expect, you can fill in the names of players you want.

Evan after a draft filling these needs, its only a start, we need another 2 drafts to be a complete team with not so many holes in it.

I expect us to have LB, QB, and DB issues next year. We cant fix everything at once.

Your input is welcome.

GO PHINS!!!!!!!!!!!:woot:

That was a refreshingly objective analysis. Thanks for that. I beleive most of what you have noted is very smart.

This new regime will almost definitely understand that you must view the draft and free agency hand in hand. As a result, it is quite obvious that they will provide us with significant insight into their decisions on the draft, especially if they spend big money on a defensive tackle and choose to go 3-4 as I expect they will.

All this aside I really believe it is a two horse race between Dorsey and Ryan with Chris Long being the third guy who they might grab over the other two based primarily on familiarity, not necessarily talent.

If the draft were today I would be drafting Glenn Dorsey.

I made sure not to get into exactly who we would pick, but I would have to lean towards the Chris Long pick. Even though he may not be worth the 1 overall.

My gut tells me that we will do whatever we can to trade the pick.

I agree Ghetti, I think right now i would want Dorsey, however the more I think about it the more I would like Ryan (not that I want to take him #1 overall, or think he is exceptionally great), strictly based on the fact that the main issue that has taken almost a decade to resolve is the QB position.

There is always the come back that beck needs another year to evaluate, which i agree he does, however it would not hurt to have 2 solid qb prospects, should one not pan out in the next couple years.

If we trade or take Dorsey or Long with the top pick and Ryan is gone I would like to see one of our seconds be used on another young qb. I think its a position that needs to get some resolution to once and for all. The worst FA come available at that position and every draft there is a shortage of solid qb's with potential.

All this of course is speculation till after the combine, who is a good value at certain positions and who parcells likes in Free Agency. I don't want to draft ryan but think its the smartest way to go. It would be nice to trade down and still be able to get him but not sure if there will be a buyer.

Should be an intersting off season.

I agree that we would love to get extra picks. Its just easier said than done.

At market price it would be hard. But would you trade to the 4th pick overall for an extra second rounder? I sure would. It goes against the trade chart value, but it saves you the 1st overall money and gets you a top 36 pick.
In that case you could find a buyer.

Lets give it some time, the raiders had offers last year and didnt pull the trigger.

I called the possibility of the Cowboys trade 3 months ago. It makes sense even more that Tuna is here. My problem is I would like the Barber and Brown idea, but RB is not a huge need for us.

I still think going from Barber to McFadden is a step down for the Cowboys. There are some holes in McFadden's game. He is a media darling because of his all world speed and acceleration. Problem is, you need the build, vision, and power to get into the open field. I question those traits for McFadden.

Hey Ghetti...Shhhhhhhh.....Jerry Jones doesnt need to know that. :)
Lets make that our little secret.

I would love for us to trade down to 4 or 5. We could still get someone like Jake Long or Ryan Clady or Sedrick Ellis. And I could see us doing that for a 2nd and a 3rd pick or even 2nd and a 4th. Of Oakland, Atlanta and KC one of those teams is going to pick after the the other two and might want to leapfrog ahead. I'm hoping we could find a trade partner there. I would hate for us to do the deal with Dallas. Dropping out of the top 10 altogether is way too much.

I dont understand your first two paragraphs. You are saying Ryan isnt that special, but you would still take him with the #1 overall? It has been a decade since we had a good QB, but you want to spend that pick on a guy you dont feel is that special?

For the record, I also dont think he is, and I think there are too many other areas we need to address to spend any picks in the first 4 rounds on QB...JMHO

Very well written. I think you have mentioned most of the areas I have been preaching about. No reason to try to supplant the semi-solid to very solid areas we already have ie:

Beck at QB-Still have to see
Ronnie Brown- Very solid obviously
WR? Perhaps via FA
Front line- wouldnt touch it in first 2 rounds (Unless somebody really falls to 2-1
TE- Peele is a good second TE. Need a solid first TE
DL-Better improve this vastly
LB- Once again, need much help
DB- 1 player via FA and 1 via draft-this could be a very solid unit

Very nice write up:up:

Keep in mind, if we go to the 3-4, to fill holes at LB while we acquire better players, we could see marginal veterans or really unknown younger players come in to play MLB for us.

And Jason Allen was lit up like a Christmas Tree against the Bengals, that was the one game Parcells and Ron Wolf sat in on, he may not be as solid as we all would like to think he is.

And a NT for the 3-4 is not that hard to find, as long as you know beforehand that you will need one, we could sign a FA or draft a player or even trade for a Jesse Ferguson or simply sign him off of waivers.

Nice write up though Rubin420, have you submitted anything to the VIP membership contest?

i agree with what you outlines here too.... i'd add though to Beck at QB- Still have to see is: find a back-up QB (most likely draft if one can fall to third round or later that is worth obtaining)
