The trials, tribulations and frequent flier miles this team has endured have been well documented. While most us who don't reside in the Southern U.S. have only had to put up with a one-week delay to start the season, along with a bevy of bad Geico commercials, Miami has had to spend more than their share of nights in hotels away from home and a routine that, at least thus far has apparently not allowed them to collectively find their stride. And that's the good news. The bad news is that at least two components of this team -- the offensive line and cornerback units -- are not even remotely close to performing at an NFL caliber level.

I have always hated zone blocking, it is silly. BOB body on a body. I remember in high school they tried implementing it on our team one summer, after a few weeks the coach realized it wasn't a very good idea, unfortunately, I don't see us changing that.

I agree with the article about the use of the CBs. Maxwell has never played well in off coverage, yet we expect some kind of dramatic transformation and improvement in his production. Howard seems to play better when he is pressing and challenging receivers from the line of scrimmage.

As far as the zone blocking, I think the conclusions are flat out wrong. This team succeeded last year because the offensive line started to jell in the ZBS scheme and Ajayi is really good at reading the cutback opportunities. I even remember reading something last week where Gase put more stretch run plays into the playbook, against his instincts, because he saw the production from Ajayi.

As I posted a few days ago:

Last year we did more with less.

And all we've dealt with so far are the Chargers and Jets.

This team needs to get its **** together. Last year they played it one game at a time. You could see it in how they ran.

This year they look stoned. I will admit that we've had a hell of a lot of problems since camp started, but they are playing like they can't wait for January.

So they can go home.

Couldn't sift through all the vomit in that article...

That may the single worst article ever linked to on FinH.

Just clue to the writer but since 6'5" 300 freshman don't grow on trees most hight major colleges use some version on the ZBS.

Have to agree.

In particular, if the corners don't play tighter coverage I question both Adam Gase and Matt Burke as coaches. Giving away the 5-7 yard pass is obviously not the way to go. Made a journeyman quarterback look like a Hall of Famer. It also hurts the pass rush because the quarterback nearly instantly has open receivers.

As to the offensive line maybe others can answer that better, but it seems Miami plays both zone blocking and man to man? I think the answer there is more physical guards, something many of us have been talking about for some time. Matching up in the division with guards who are more finesse just makes no sense.
