In the off-season before the 2016 CFL campaign, Sam Eguavoen had to attend a free-agent camp just to get a look with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

After three stellar seasons with the Roughriders, Eguavoen had to go through a similar process in hopes of landing a job in the NFL.

His perseverance has paid off. The 26-year-old product of Garland, Texas, earned a roster spot with the Miami Dolphins — and then won a job as a starting linebacker.

“I can’t even describe the feeling (of surviving final cuts),” Eguavoen said Thursday on The Green Zone. “It was a feeling of, ‘Dang, I made it, but I’ve still got so much more to prove.’ I feel like I’m not even close to my prime yet.

“But it’s an amazing feeling. Just seeing how big the locker room was to what it got cut down to and you’re one of the final guys there, it’s just a huge blessing.”

Really like this kid...

Rooting for the guy to do well. He totally earned his spot on the team.

Better line up the dt skill set guy either godchaux or Wilkins wider to try and offset egos lateral range and let him see the play in front of him. He’s best when he can play it vertically not horizontally

Straight ahead.

But he's a little smaller. Don't you need the DT's to protect him?

One of the guys that legit earned his way onto the roster. He was brought in to be an extra camp body and now he's entering the season as a starter. Yes we are tanking, but Eguavoen earned this opportunity

I always love a good underdog story. Much like the Cam Wake story. Hope he continues to grow.

Not sure why u mentioned tanking after complimenting the guy. Like u want to see him do good but not too good. Because we are "tanking".

I am happy for sam. He plays hard and looks like a really good tackler with great instincts.. cant wait to see him in action sunday!
