Dolphins executive VP Mike Tannenbaum confirms the team would like to re-sign free agent Charles Clay.

Tannenbaum said the same for free agent DT Jared Odrick. "Charles is a homegrown talent," Tannenbaum said. "He checks every box." The Miami Herald has previously reported the Dolphins have "cautious optimism" they'll get Clay back under contract. He's expected to command in the neighborhood of $6 million annually. Clay has averaged 64 catches over the past two seasons.

This team has to start cutting bad contracts.

Tannenbaum: Odrick and Clay are two guys we want to keep

I posted this article in the another thread but it all signs are pointing to Odrick and Clay staying put. Interesting that Wallace didn't get the same acknowledgment and the Dolphins didn't squash the rumors either. Clock is ticking on the start of free agency period, do you think we get these two under contract before then? If so we should have a better idea of where the team is heading into the draft.

Team executive vice president of football operations Mike Tannenbaum appeared on SiriusXM NFL Radio on Thursday morning, and was asked about the report.

“Mike’s on our team,” said Tannenbaum, who added: “We don’t comment to rumors.”

Tannenbaum did go on record about two other players whose days in Miami might also be numbered: tight end Charles Clay and defensive tackle Jared Odrick. Both are set to become free agents March 10.

“Those are two of the guys that we would like to keep,” Tannenbaum said, confirming previous Miami Herald reports. “Charles is a homegrown talent. He checks every box. ... [Odrick] can really play in any system. He will play in this league for a long time.”

Both are expected to command in the neighborhood of $6 million annually. The Dolphins probably can’t afford to pay both, short of significant cuts.

League insiders say that if the Dolphins can strike a deal with Clay in the coming weeks, it probably decreases the likelihood Wallace remains.

We can't sign our guys until free agency . . . hell I don't believe we can negotiate until March 7th.

Amazing how much Tannebaum has to say about signings and such, seems like the dolphins were lying about what his actual job is.

Just because he's commenting doesn't mean he's making the call

I don't think anybody knows . . . but I have serious doubts in thinking Tannenbaum won't be heavily involved and even "making the call" in certain situations.

Feels like Parcells/Ireland to be honest.

could be, but impossible to tell from these quotes

Which honestly a lot of teams do have similar set ups to that. The issue becomes whether or not Tannenbaum will undermine Hickey. If they work together, it'll be a non-issue. If Tannenbaum just starts doing what he wants rather than what Philbin/Hickey want? It'll be an issue.

Of course, I've always been very consistent on my beliefs with FO and coaching when it comes to personnel.

I want Clay back but honestly don't think we need to keep odrick if he wants close to 7 mil. I would like a wide bodied run stuffer up to middle. If only we could have Danny Shelton drop to us.......

I have no problem with a team saying it wants certain players back, I think it Should be done a lot more often, making players feel wanted can go a long way in retaining players.

It's not like they offered him any $ yet.

So we're basically screwed for the next 3 years. At least.
