Dolphins fans gather to protest and look silly

Because of the efforts of a small group of strong-willed NFL fans filled with unwavering passion, the NFL history books will mark today as a day in which the fortunes of the Miami Dolphins franchise were completely and utterly unaffected. Izzy Gould of SunSentinel.com describes the gathering of about 30 protesters (and has a photo gallery you can see here).

Some fans held signs that read "FIRELAND," a reference to general manager Jeff Ireland. A few cars honked as the protesters yelled, clapped and at one point chanted, "Jeff Ireland's got to go."
Protesters had been standing on Miami Dolphins' property. They were politely asked to protest across the street.
A police officer asked the protesters to stay off the road and added, "I would be with you."

Really, copper? If you had the day off, that's what you'd be doing?
Listen, I'm not going to tell you that Jeff Ireland has done a good job with the Dolphins. He hasn't. He's presided over three straight losing seasons and thus far, this offseason has been disastrous for the Dolphins. There's no progress being made there. If I were a Dolphins fan, I'd be upset, too.

But a protest? Come on. Let's calm ourselves. There are a million things in the world worth protesting, but the Miami Dolphins not getting their special quarterback is not one of them.

And that's what this is about. Fans are frustrated. They wanted some reason for hope this offseason. They wanted Peyton Manning, and failing that, they wanted to overpay for Matt Flynn. They got neither. Both quarterbacks chose to play elsewhere, which is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. This basically amounts to a group of fans throwing a fit because they didn't get Peyton Manning.

Had the Dolphins been able to sign Manning, Flynn, or even Alex Smith, there wouldn't be protests today, there would be parades. Don't act like there's not precedent for that.

LeBron James may have ruined Miami sports fans forever. Perhaps it's the case in Miami now that they feel like elite free agents are their birthright, and they throw a fit when they don't get them.

Looks like we got national attention...WOW

This was expected, but I still like the idea. As I said earlier, I will protest by not going to games.

The writer has no clue. It's a protest of COMPLETE ineptitude, not a protest of not getting Peyton Manning. This team hasn't won a playoff game in twelve ****ing years, and with Jeff Ireland at the helm it will be 13 or more, absolutely guaranteed. 16 Quarterbacks, 8 head coaches, 2 owners, failure after failure after failure. Fans should be disgusted. Embarrassed at this organization. ESPECIALLY people who continue to pump money into the team by going to games. If I was a season ticket holder you'd bet i'd be down there. Showing my displeasure to these MORONS ruining something I love doing.

Dear god it's hard to read Yahoo news. It's like they hire 15 year olds to write their articles via text.

That article is a joke. You can get 30 people to protest anything. If 15,000 people showed up, you could infer one of two things: 1) they might have a point 2) there are other issues more worthy of a protest.

But 30? There are more people at an apartment SB party. Nobody needs to calm down.

Haven't heard about it on ESPN or the NFL Network so it doesn't sound like a big deal...only to you maybe???

Still shows the MIA fanbase is pathetic. Like seeing the stadium half full in beatiful weather isn't bad enough.

I can goto a KC game against MIA with both teams playing for nothing but pride, and see more people there than in MIA. The fanbase for the most part is fair weather and fickle. And this protest shows just that.

MIAMI is in transition. You people who drove Sparano out of town, are getting what you want. New direction, new philosophy. It is what it is.

No we're not, because we wanted Ireland out of town as well, so we're getting the same exact garbage. Sparano was only part of the problem because he couldn't coach or manage a game.

And who goes to the stadium for the weather? That's what the beach is for, and it's where most fans are after 10+ years of ineptitude.

There is nothing else to do in KC....except eat some barbecue and tailgate. Been there, done that. Fans in Miami can go to the beach on Sunday, or do other things.

Of course the jerk-off who wrote this article isn't a Dolphins fan and obviously has no idea that this protest isn't just because we didn't get Peyton Manning or Matt Flynn.

Right.....so when non-sports news outlets including USA Today, WGN Chicago, and Yahoo report it must not be that big of a deal. Go sleep with Ireland

Every protest known to man started with 1 idea from 1 person

U my friend are clueless. U don't even understand why people are so upset .....

The only thing being talked about is Peyton Manning's press conference in Denver. I haven't heard a single word about any protest on the NFL Network today or on ESPN.

How many people were at the Boston Tea Party?
