Dolphins forgive Rickys debt?

Forgive his debt??? After they've went through a mediator and the courts and have won hands down? Nah, i don't think so. Possibly SOME of his debt, but only if he agrees to the vet minimum. I could see that. But not all of it.

I can't read the link, it is censored at my place of work. But this contradicts every other article that I have read. I hope this isn't true. I don't know what is going to happen with his contract. I for one don't believe that he is going to play for the vet min, although he doesn't really have much room for negotiations.

I don't know. If he does agree to the NFL minimum and plays two seasons, I can see it. It makes sense for both parties.

wouldnt this whole thing violate the salary cap? its like we are giving him 8.6 million dollars on the side so he will play for the league minimum?

I stand by my point that Ricky is ONLY coming back for the money. This was a major victory for him. He might as well retire right now.

OK, it may not make sense for Miami to forgive him his debt completely. But lets look at the situation for a moment: RW owes $8.6 mill. He KNOWS he can't pay it back. He also knows he can't come back for the NFL minimum and be able to pay it back. There HAD to be some agreement made that would relieve Ricky of the debt. I think the agreement will be contractual that says he will pay for the NFL minimum (or possibly slightly above) and fullfill two more years of his contract in exchange for the $8.6 mill that he technically earned anyway. The only reason we were able to recoup that $8.6 mill was because of the contract language. But performance-wise, he earned it. So both sides will bend. Ricky will play, he won't be broke as a convict and we'll get more return on our investment of what ended up being two 1st round picks and we won't have to pay him a ridiculous amount of money for the remainder of the time he is here. It really does make sense.

How could it violate the salary cap when it was already given in incentives and is money EARNED. The fact that he had to pay it back was because of how the contract was written. It has no further bearing on the salary cap at all.

The source says NFL Network. Since TA hasn't happened yet today, I think it is bogus because I don't remember them ever saying that. On NFL live yesterday, they said the Dolphins MAY reduce the debt depending on his play this year.

"Dolphins forgive Williams debt, 7/20
The Miami Dolphins have forgiven the $8.6 million in signing bonus money owed to them by RB Ricky Williams per a previous ruling by an arbitrator. Source: NFL Network. "

so it sounds like, (from this website) that as part of the ruling, if ricky came back, the debt to the team would be forgiven.

this site also says Bruschi will be playing this season.

but all the other NFL info says he wont be.

Is ricky william's even up to a weight of a H.S. running back yet?

Right now he weighs somewhere around the range of 215-220.

Yes, I think the argument is that Ricky has now cured his breach and the original contract is in effect so the Fins are obligated for the signing bonus paid, and Ricky is no longer obligated to pay it back. If he leaves again before the end of the contract then he will robably owe the money again (or the pro rated amount). Also, this would imply that Ricky will be playing under his original salary, and not the league minimum.
