Dolphins Free Agency Update
Wed Jan 31, 2007

The Miami Herald reports though no serious talks have begun, the Dolphins have relayed interest in re-signing several free agents, including QB Cleo Lemon and SS Yeremiah Bell (who are restricted) and FB Darian Barnes and DE David Bowens. DT Vonnie Holliday initiated discussions, but Miami hasn't made an offer.

This should put the Wes Welker cult to rest...Mueller is interested in adding SPEED to the WR position. They havent shown interest in re-signing Wes Welker.

How can anyone hate on Wes Welker

how can a miami dolphin fan not be interested in resigning wes welker? if he is demanding a lot of $, then yeah, he has to walk. however, if his contract requests are reasonable, then i can't see anyone objecting. he was a great possession WR for us. hell, he wad the most consistent WR we had last year. also, he consistently put us into good position on ST as well. he gives his heart and soul out there every time he walks onto the field. maybe he isn't the fastest guy around, but neither is zach.

the guy doesn't have any speed and to be successful as a little guy in this league you have to have speed. he would have broken so many of his returns for TDs if he had anywhere close to say Devin Hester's speed

I'm still trying to figure out what this has to do with the thread????

I don't think any serious talks with anyone will begin until after Cameron and staff has had a chance to talk to the players.

If Welker is not re-signed, you can look for either Vick or one of the drafted rookies to return kicks this year.

Yeah because everyone has Devin's speed... :shakeno:

If Wes isn't resigned, it's a travesty!!!

Zach makes up for speed with great instincts and good tackling, Wes is just a short WR with no speed. look at the short WRs who are succesful in this league, they all are very fast. like Santana Moss or Steve Smith. you can make up for not having one thing if you have another thing going for you, all Wes can do is catch. he has some shifty moves but without speed he can't break away. possession WRs should be tall

You guys are seriously overlooking Wes Welker's role as a clutch possession receiver on this team.

Returning kicks is not the only thing he does. You are all so blindly in love with speed. It's not all about speed.

Yeah, Wes isn't a burner. But he picks his holes on returns beautifully and usually gets us past the 30 yard line.

But how many times did we see this year on 3rd and 5 or 6, Wes Welker find the soft spot in coverage and make a clutch catch to extend the drive?

You'd have seen it a lot more, also, if we didn't have the worst QB play in the NFL.

Wes Welker cult? Is this going to be like the Culpepper vs. Harrington thing? Wes Welker is a quality player, and I'm not so certain not resigning him would be a good idea.

the guy doesn't even run a 4.5, I said he needs to be close to Hester's speed not have his exact same speed. a 4.4 would be close

Tell that to Wayne Chrbecht, who I believe was one of the best recievers the jets have ever had. Who went to a few pro bowls and killed us on third downs year in and year out...You dont need breakaway speed when you are as quick as welker. He constantly finds holes and catches everything.

Also...hester had 8 fumbles this year..How many did Wes have
