The Jets actually had a chance to make things interesting, trailing 24-14 with the ball on their 48 in the third quarter. But rather than be patient and run the ball, the Jets asked Sanchez to pass on first down and he threw his third interception.
An upset win of the Patriots (7-3) would have been a huge help and conceivably could have left New England and Miami tied heading into their Dec. 6 Sunday night matchup in South Florida. The Patriots travel to unbeaten New Orleans Sunday, while the Dolphins visit the 3-7 Bills.
Miami (5-5) entered Sunday looking for some help to move from the fringe to the thick of the playoff picture. At day’s end, nine AFC teams have four losses or fewer, but the 5-4 Texans face the surging Titans on Monday night.
