Dolphins | Harrington prepared to be backup QB
Thu, 18 May 2006 13:19:11 -0700
Miami Dolphins QB Joey Harrington said he wants to be a starting quarterback, but he is prepared to be the backup to QB Daunte Culpepper if needed. "I don't think any player is content when they are not on the field, but I have been in this situation before," Harrington said. "I was in this situation with (former Detroit Lions QB) Jeff (Garcia) last year where I was forced to be a backup and be ready at any time. ... Of course I want to be out there on the field as a competitor, but as a teammate, I am going to do everything I can to be ready for this team and if that means sitting for a season or two, then I'm prepared to do that."

Thanks for the Low Down Dawg!

If Harrington wants to start hes gonna have to earn that job and have something to prove when he plays.

im really happy with the addition of harrington but theres no way he would be starting over daunte if dauntes healthy, i think he will see some action this year with daunte prob having to miss a couple of games but this is now dauntes team

It's great that Joey is here to back up DC. I'm so amped about the things this team has been doing in the off season.

I hope Harrington gets a good chance to prove himself. May the best QB win whether it be Culpepper, Harrington, Vick?, or Lemon.

The best thing about that article is what coaches are already doing with Harrington.
"My drop, they're coaching differently, which I love. I'm getting back to the things I used to do. All the things that they changed in Detroit, we're changing again. But we're changing it back to things that I was really comfortable with."

This was the most telling quote to me:
"We obviously had pieces in Detroit, that wasn't an issue," Harrington said. "I don't necessarily think we had a direction. And that's what I loved about this situation, was the control that coach (Nick) Saban has over this team. He has everybody in there focused on the same goal and looking in the same direction, and that's what I want to be a part of. I want to be part of a team again."
