To tag or not to tag, that is the question.

The Dolphins and the 31 other NFL teams have until Thursday to use their one franchise tag on one of their own free agents. Of the Dolphins' eight unrestricted free agents only tackle Vernon Carey, strong safety Yeremiah Bell and possibly linebacker Channing Crowder have a chance of getting tagged, but don't count on it. Free agency begins Feb. 27.

Suggs, Bryant, Sproles, & Bironas have all just been franchised. Bart Scott is officially on the Dolphins radar. I just hope the Jets don't get him. Also, Jason Brown is free now too.

I think we gonna offer Jason Brown a ton of money. He will be our big time free agent signing this year.

i honestly think we will tag yeremiah. he's a good tackler and good at coming up and playing the run

Yea, I hope Jason Brown is this year's Justin Smiley where we sign him at 12:01am. :woot:

Of course, our main priority should be re-signing Vernon Carey, "first". But if we 'do' sign Carey then the top candidates for the franchise tag to me would be Channing Crowder or Yeremiah Bell.

And I think they should re-sign Bell and tag Crowder. Especially if we are going to put all of our resources into making Jason Brown the top paid C in the league.

I like the thought of tagging Crowder because you can then still draft a Daryl Beckwith or trade for Bobby Carpenter and groom one of them for a year behind Crowder and then let Crowder walk next season or re-sign him if he has a Pro Bowl year...

bell is close to signing from everything i have read so i feel like there isnt anyone worth tagging

I think Crowder is the only logical choice but I am not sure they would be willing to pay him that much. It is my understanding that the two sides are not even at the bargaining table.

Crowder. Based on what Pat Kirwan said on SIrius Radio, there are not a lot of MLBs of quality in this year's draft. So it would be wise for teams to keep their MLBs this year, if at least via a one year franchise tag.

Crowder is the perfect candidate for that. This way we can give him one year to see if he can put up Pro Bowl numbers next season. If he does, sign him to a long term, as he is young, if he doesn't....he's a FA and you're off the hook and have less holes to fill in 2010 and can focus on MLB early.

Which is why the franchise tag is perfect for a guy like that. A player who isn't interested in working out a deal is the perfect candidate for the franchise tag: ala Nmandi Aso....etc. Players who want more than you are willing to give them...so you tag them because it is the only way you guarantee to have them back.

Carey and Bell are worth re-signing. So they should be shown the money. PLus, there isn't a significant upgrade in the draft where we pick.

Crowder is in the same situation as far as a significant upgrade....but FO isn't on the same page as far as worth is concerned. So he should be tagged.
