Dolphins hope Billy Turner can earn a starting spot at one of the guard spots

Saw this on Rotoworld. Not sure if it has been posted already as I've been out of the loop the last few days.

The Dolphins are using third-round pick Billy Turner at both guard positions, and hope he will earn a starting job as a rookie.
The Fins have an opening at guard with Shelley Smith capable of playing either side. Miami may resist starting two rookies next to each other, and could prefer Turner alongside LT Branden Albert rather than first-round RT Ja'Wuan James. Turner was a mauling college run blocker, albeit in FCS. He has length (6'5/315, 34-inch arms) to become more than adequate in pass protection.

Turner is LT not a G and now the Dolphins want to transition a Rookie to a new position as he enter the NFL.. hmmmm Gabe Jackson would have been he better choice here..

How hard could it be for a tackle to learn the guard position.I would worry more if he was a Guard and had to learn the Tackle position.

You may be suprised...Turner is smart, motivated and is built for the G position. He has to win the job first...it wont be given to him.

If you have seen Turner play, you'd agree that he could play guard, and he himself has said he wants to play guard

He's is very good "move" lineman with more then adequate strength for the position, plus he has a "nasty" disposition which would serve him well on the interior. Have a tackle like athlete on the inside can on be beneficial. Why was he chosen over established guards? Versatility....

The point is, If you're Philbin you don't have time for transition. As Rookies it going to take 4-5 games just to think you have a chance at starting.. I like turner, but we need to go deep in the playoffs now! Philbin can't afford RT on his ass..

Asking any FCS player even a talented player like Turner is a big stretch....

I'd be surprised if opening day hes the starter maybe by week 8.

You don't have a choice, you reached in the draft for the best RT, you better back that up with him starting... If he doesn't the pitch forks and torches are coming..

Myself, I would've been pissed if we did NOT select at least 2 O-linemen who could step in and play. I feel we accomplished this. I guess we'll see. :idk:

No No! we didn't have a choice, I like James even if Hickey reached but James has to start... I think Hickey still need to find a RT or a G in FA still.. as for Turner I think the kid has skills but I would of drafted a natural G position not a OT to transition to G while transitioning to the NFL.. that takes more time IMO.. Philbin needs to win now...
