Mark Washington/DE-LB/Texas State University: ... He measured in at 6-feet-2-inches and 257-pounds, a few pounds heavier than expected. His marks included 4.77-to-4.81 seconds in the forty, 4.43-seconds in the short shuttle, 31-inches in the vertical jump, and 25 completed reps of 225-pounds on the bench. The New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Miami Dolphins were on hand for the workout. Of the four teams, the 49ers and Dolphins have shown the most interest. ... The Dolphins view Washington as a possible inside linebacker in their 3-4 scheme.

Robert Armstrong/DT/Morgan State: Two teams have recently made strong inquiries about Armstrong, the Miami Dolphins and New York Giants. The Giants needs depth and upgrades in the interior of their defensive line and Miami could also use some depth.

The league has been telling people they expect to officially announce the results of the supplemental draft somewhere around 3:30 pm ET on Thursday.

i odubt DT but that MLB probably but not too sure if they make a move.

Nice work. Thanks for the update. Seems like they're showing interest in all the smaller prospects. They ran Robert Armstrong's defensive line drills at his Morgan State pro day. According to someone on the board that supposedly works with Brian Soi's brother, the Dolphins were at Soi's pro day workout. I can't remember but the Dolphins may also have shown interest in Clifton Dickson, the DT out of FSU. We know they were at Chris Patrick's pro day workout.

Now they show interest in Mark Washington.

Conspicuous by absence are reports that the Dolphins are interested in Paul Oliver or Jared Gaither, the two players expected to be drafted in the Supplemental Draft.

Quinn-sized ruse? Or just a reluctance to plump a 2008 pick for one of the two players?

Miami already lost a an almost guaranteed 4th rounder with the Trent Green deal. I don't see Miami a player in this draft unless it's for a 6th or 7th rounder.

If Gaither or Oliver make it to the 4th round, Miami could actually use that 4th rounder on one of them. If Trent Green reaches the incentives, which you're right he probably will, then Carl Peterson would be forced to accept a 4th round pick in 2009.

If you remember a year ago with the Harrington deal, Muellar made it a point to mention how the Dolphins had full use of that 5th round pick in the Supplemental Draft, should they choose to use it...and what would happen if Harrington reached the incentives to escalate it to a 5th is Miami would have to give Detroit its 5th rounder in 2008 instead of 2007.

I asked Jeff Darlington about this, and whether it was specific language in the trade agreement or if it was a league rule. According to Darlington, this is standard language that is included in almost all conditional trade agreements. The way I understand it, as per the conditional agreement, the 5th rounder in 2008 now belongs to the Kansas City Chiefs, not Miami Dolphins, however the 4th rounder belongs to the Dolphins and they can do what they wish with it, and if the trade escalates to a 4th, then Miami gets the 2008 5th rounder back and the Chiefs receive Miami's 2009 4th.

Are there any Hawaiian prospects?

As a matter of fact, Brian Soi is yet another pacific islander prospect that the Dolphins have shown interest in. He had a pretty impressive pro day at 6'3" and 331 pounds as a DT. The Dolphins would obviously be interested in him as a replacement for Fred Evans.

Soi supposedly had a 28 inch vertical, an 8'11" broad jump, ran somewhere in the 4.92-4.96 range, and put up the 225 bench press 41 times. According to BIG_FISH_RI, who supposedly works with Brian Soi's brother who told him all this, Brian also looked good during DL drills.

If we waist another draft pick here we are idiots!!!!!! It's the supplemental draft and there are reasons why they are in this draft!!!!!! Those reasons are usually not good!!!

Unless the player doesn't sign with us, I don't see it as being a waste.

I hear some teams arent even interested in any of the players in the supplemental draft. Is this always how it is most years?

I'm sure the Chargers would disagree with you, as they are very happy with Jamal Williams, who happens to be one of the best nose tackles in all of football (if not the best, period).

Yes, the Supplemental Draft is usually filled with flawed players. So is the second day of the real draft, when teams are looking for talented, flawed players that may be able to overcome their flaws and become good pros.

That was the case with Manny Wright. It was the case with Ahmad Brooks. It is now the case with Jared Gaither.

But that doesn't mean they will ALWAYS fail.

Some teams generally avoid it as a rule, and just never get involved almost no matter what their needs are and almost no matter what prospect is available.

And there are valid reasons not to. One could go a long time avoiding the Supplemental Draft altogether and not regretting it. On the other hand, if you pull a Jamal Williams out of there, you'd probably be pretty happy that you did so.

One big disadvantage with the Supplemental is the inability to value the pick that you are giving up in the proper context. You don't know what your pick order will be in the 2008 draft, so you don't truly know the value of the pick you're giving up. Even worse, you don't have an accurate account of the talent level likely to be available at that pick in the 2008 draft. So in that way, you're jumping into the Supplemental Draft head-first without looking.

It is all about the individual prospects and developing conviction about them. The Dolphins plumped for Wright because they had conviction that if this guy could become a hard worker, if Nick Saban could 'whip him' into shape, then he had the talent to be a dominant DT in the league. That thesis was actually CORRECT. He showed tons of talent whenever he played. But what turned out false was the IF. Nick Saban couldn't do it. Nobody could.

Now they evaluate a guy like Jared Gaither...and they have to develop the same conviction if they want to take him. Will they? I'm not betting on it. I'm betting they'll grab one of the defensive players undrafted, such as Brian Soi, Robert Armstrong, or Mark Washington.

Maybe they'll grab two.

I have a feeling too that they'll sign one of those guys as an undrafted rookie free agent.
