Dolphins interview Groh for defensive coordinator job

Just saw that on KFFL.com. I think he's the "back up" plan if Butler declines.

Butler declines and its Groh i give up as a Fin Head.

Decisions Decisions, In Groh u know what u r getting, a fundamentaly sound defense. Butler on the other hand sounds could be something special.

In the wake of the surprise termination of Paul Pasqualoni, the Dolphins have wasted no time in lining up a successor.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the team met on Wednesday with New York Jets coach Al Groh.

Part backup plan, part tossing a bone to an old friend by getting his name in the papers.

That's my hope, anyway. Parcells does this alot. Remember him bringing in Quincy Carter to TC?

what a friend...helping out a coke head....(thats the right one right?)

I def think this is a back up plan. However, the last backup plan we had ended up becoming our OC (Dan Henning).

IMO Sparano is going to try and look for somebody he wants (and I think that person is Butler), but he doesn't want to wait too long to get his staff together.

I would be a little disappointed with Groh as our DC. Sure, we'd get a defense that knows where they should be, but it's very vanilla.

NO GROH, NO GROH, NO GROH!!! Sparano needs to step up and tell Parcells he wants his guy here. Get off the stationary bike Tuna and get on the Harley.

(Obviously if Butler doesn't want it we might have no choice)

Yeah. I don't think anybody really thought he could do anything for us. But BP brought him in anyway because he thought the guy was trying to turn his life around, and it might help him get another job because Parcells gave him a shot.

Hell, I would hope that it's a backup to the backup of a backup plan, at best!

I guess it all depends on whether or not Butler is serious about coming to Miami, or if he's just trying to leverage some more coin from the Steelers if they want him to stick around till LeBeau retires.

after doing a little digging I found some stuff. Keith Butler is who Ireland and Sparano want, but it is unknown what kind of interest Butler has in the job. Sparano has made it clear that he wants to improve LB play feeling that poor play from both the OLBs and ILBs hurt the secondary.

Al Groh was interviewed, and will be a candidate, but he was interviewed early because Miami doesn't need to gain permission to talk to him. Plus, Groh is in talks with Georgia Tech, and a couple pro teams (one is believed to be the New York Giants) about becoming DC. Groh could be hired as he has a reputation of being a good teacher, but that is why Bill Sheridan was hired.

Sparano and Ireland want somebody that is willing to make adjustments as well.

In short, Al Groh was interviewed cause he was available to interview. Keith Butler is not the only assistant Miami wants to interview, but he's who Miami wants to hire.
