Wendling could be that enforcer needed in the secondary. That big hitter that would make receivers think twice about coming across the middle.

Why do you say Kenny Scott is another Marcus Vick? I know he was ruled academically ineligible for their bowl game but what else has he done to warrant such a label?

I'd happily take Wendling in the 2nd round. A lot of people don't know who he is, but he's a freak athletically, and is a well rounded safety.

Scott is alright, but there are several CBs I like better than him

I saw Wendling play against Air Force and he is a guy with unreal speed and he can hammer people. I would love to grab this guy as he would make a great Safety.

All-America Candidate UW This Season: John Wendling will enter his senior season as a leading All-America candidate in 2006. A three-year starter at safety for the Cowboys, he has added 13 pounds to his frame from a year ago, while maintaining his speed and explosiveness -- he ran a 4.38 40-yard time during winter conditioning and posted a vertical jump of 40.9 inches. During 2006 spring practice, Wendling trained at the strong-safety position, in addition to his familiar free-safety spot. He could be utilized at either position his senior year. Prior to the 2005 season, he was ranked by Phil Steele's College Football Preview as the No. 16 best free safety in the nation.

Scott has had problems in the past. He was also benched his senior year, and has showed poor work habits. The guys from NFL network were talking about it earlier today....

wedling looks good man, woudlnt mind him in round 2 but not sure what his projection is? round 3 maybe? doubt it, numbers and size look too good for a SS to go too late.

Wendling's official stats

22 bench press reps
4.48 40 time
38 inch Vertical Reps

He's also like 6'2 225 lbs.. he could be a linebacker if he adds on some weight.. I love him as a prospect.

Reggie Nelson was a loser in the combine.. 4.48 speed, 5'11 3/8ths 198 lbs

[FONT=Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif][SIZE=-2]Positives: Lean, athletic frame with long arms. Looks the part, with impressive overall musculature. Instinctive player who is rarely out of position. Understands his role as the last line of defense and takes good angles when in pursuit. Very good overall speed that translates well onto the gridiron. Smooth back pedal and hip turn in transition for man to man scheme. Asked to come up and play man to man as a free safety in the past, showing legitimate man to man footwork. Cognizant and disciplined in zone coverage, as well. Good break on the ball and an effective tackler. Recognizes run quickly and is a reliable open field tackler. Led the team in tackles two of the past three years. Finished second in 2005. Versatile, having started at free safety as a sophomore and junior and strong safety as a senior. Highly intelligent on and off the field. Team captain. Recruited by Harvard, Princeton and Stanford, among others.

Negatives: Moved to strong safety as a senior, but might lack the physicality to remain at this position in the NFL. Standout athleticism, but isn't viewed as particularly physical. Relies on his athleticism to evade blockers. Needs to improve his hand usage in discarding blocks. Misses tackles, at times, when gearing up for the big hit. Level of competition is a concern.
