Miami Dolphins linebacker Jelani Jenkins wasn’t shy to admit that his best play – a tackle for loss -- in Thursday's preseason opener against the Chicago Bears was almost entirely due to someone else.
“Ndamukong Suh did all the work,” Jenkins said with a laugh. “He just makes it easier. You all saw it. He’s a monster; he’s always been. That specific play, I didn’t get touched. I just ran through full speed and [the Bears] were so busy trying to stop Ndamukong that it freed me up.”
The Dolphins finally got a chance to experience the “Suh effect” in a game situation.
Suh played just seven snaps with the first-team defense. But that span included Jenkins’ tackle for loss, a false start by the offense and a sack by defensive end Cameron Wake, although that play was called back because of injury. The Dolphins expect to see more of that throughout the season.
“Those are some of the things that may not show up on a stat sheet, but I think when you watch the tape, hopefully there’s an impact on a lot of different fronts,” Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said. “Certainly we want to see the impact plays like sacks, the hurries and so forth. But there’s other ways to make a difference in football.”
