In a classic "we know it's the off-season but we have to write something", David Neal of the Miami Herald writes about Cleo Lemon and his expectations for this upcoming season,

"So why did Lemon re-sign with the Dolphins? 'I was told the competition is open,' said Lemon,"

Cleo, you were a restricted free agent and nobody was willing to give up a second rounder for you. That's why you re-sign.
:dolphins:

Lemon = good guy and good teammate. But I hate to inform Cleo that unless he goes apeshizzle in performance....he's a career backup at best.

Well it appears Daunte was not the only one lied to. I guess he misunderstood, the open competition was for backup lol. He wasn't going to get much of an offer anywhere else and would be a backup or less wherever he went. I do wish we had a competition for the job because Green has not earned anything here.

Cleo will remain the back-up this year and probably will be long gone by next year. Beck will step up in the back-up role. If we keep Hamdan in the practice squad he could probably end up as our third QB next year. Truth from here till next year alot can happen. Im only guessing.

If Beck is so good then he should be ready to start next year instead of sitting on the bench.

Why would you say he was 'lied' to ?? He was told, as was Green that the competition would be open. Green has said in his PCs that there was no such guarantees about starting...Lemon wasn't able to beat out Frerrotte or Feeley in his time...what makes anyone think he's better than Green, even without seeing Green except for the last few weeks ?? Cam has said all along that each player must EARN his position...Lemon is and has been nothing more than a solid backup his whole career...5 yrs he's had to show something ??

Get off the "poor Lemon" stuff...he's a nice player and that's it...

I don't feel sorry for Lemon he's a third string type Qb at best but there is no competition. Green is our starter. Yea we are paying Green all that money to come here and compete for a job lol. Okay tell me another one. I never said poor Lemon I just said the competition thing is another lie if it was said. lemon is nothing special although some on this board thought he was beating out Rivers at one point lol.

Normally don't but I've got to agree with you here.

If anyone seriously thinks Lemon had any serious shot at winning the QB competition you've been had. The only "competition" was that it was Green's position to lose. I.e. play very horribly.

It's PC to say "Open Competition" even if you have penciled a starter in your head.

Ready doesn't mean he'll start. Phil Rivers?

Rivers had an all pro in front of him. If we had Drew Brees in front of Beck fine but Trent Green is no longer that good.

You could seriously bench a Qb with 27 td and 7 interceptions. The next season he followed that up with 24 td s and 15 interceptions. Rivers sat for two years only because he had Brees in front of him not because he was not ready. If Green produces like that sure let beck sit but I seriosuly doubt that Green is going to perform at that level.

His record and pro-bowl appearances disagree.

His record has been fairly mediocre and Daunt had more pro bowl appearances. Fielder had a better record but that means nothing.
We are not talking about that Trent Green we are talking about 37 year old Trent Green.

Is Trent Green really serviceable for two years?

I think that's really pushing the limit for him, regardless about what he's said through the media about his concussion.

Hard to fell sorry for guy making 1.4 million for carrying a clipboard.

1.4 was his tender?

If he impresses the Coaches enough, he may be put in some time during the year if Green struggles, but as a rule, you do not rush a Rookie QB unless you have to, and if Green is able to do a good job with our Offense, there is no reason to risk Beck's learning of the QB job in the NFL.
