Dolphins' linebackers showing promise

Hopefully Jenkins and/or Tripp take charge in training camp.

Always hilarious wih the Wheeler bashing while many gloss over how just as awful ellerbee was who got paid much more. He was so bad in fact that we are now playing Misi in the spot we signed him to play.

There were suspicions that Ellerbe was hurt and played hurt - if he improves his play 2013l will be forgotten

IMO - The FO expects a healthy Ellerbe will perform better

I saw a number of things and saw a few articles that made me feel like Ellerbe was gutting it out last year

If Ellerbe was hurt then there isn't as big a need to spend early raft picks on LB - Ellerbe did not play well last year but he was better than Trusnick at 100%

i like that tripp and jenkins are getting some reps with the 1's...at least lets see some other guys...not that i expect much better results...core lacks instincts something fierce

holding out hope tripp as an unknown might be able to add some of it i guess

I'd argue that Misi is a good football player. He hasn't shown to be a playmaker, but he is a good, steady guy. So, I am not buying that all of our backers are bad. Now it is a different question as to whether Misi is going to be effective inside. If he pulls it off, that would be outstanding. But, one way or another, we've got one good backer that you can count on somwhere.

Hopefully Misi works out in the middle. Now, Ellerbe may flash a bit more outside. Honestly, being average may be an improvement for Ellerbe.

I'm not sure how Wheeler racked up those tackle statistics last season. Great example of how stats are extremely over-rated in football. Wheeler was a hot mess last year. I guess we have to live with him out there. Personally, I thought Jelani Jenkins showed decent burst in coverage. I'm not arguing he's starter material in the league, but he's useful role player material.

Wouldn't it be nice if we drafted a mid-round linebacker and found ourselves with a Lance Briggs type of talent?

i think misis solid too but i will bet bottom dollar that he gets exposed off pa and misdirection at mike being overly aggressive...still run fit fills sound like they should be better...as a oc though you got to attack that dude in coverage off pa and take advantage of his heavily overpursuing the ball which is sure to happen this year

i will be amazed if he plays an above average mike...you cant just teach guys to play it at a high level...and if he's on the field every down i expect a lot of zone in the sub package...carrying man coverage i see him wearing a target

worst case he doesnt pan out we got a solid 2 down poa strong side lb for the next few years...i kinda think a new mike comes in next year anyways unless this goes better than i think it will...this teams got 43 olbs all over it and no real true mikes

After laat year il be more than happy if he can simply be average. Would be a clear upgrade

grimes at least did his job and forced outside contain wheeler just overran the damn play...there's another brutal play from wheeler in the carolina game on a big run...and many more in pass coverage...not to mention all the times that clown was late to fill or overran it or late when clean to the spot...i kid you not most the late in game scoring drive plays by the opposition wheeler was involved in...god he was terrible

like i said worst clean to the ball starting lb probably in football last year

a move to strong provided misi can handle the poa stuff at mike more may help his game...but he's always been a scheme based production lb and completely overrated with the numbers...has zero instincts...

This is one of the reasons I wanted Shazier. Wheeler blew so many plays where he was unblocked . . . His stats still looked decent, but a good (not even great) WLB would have put up monster numbers last season. Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how we address the LB position next season off season. I hope the plan isn't that Tripp and Jenkins will develop into replacements for Wheeler and Ellerbe.

Exactly, and unless Ellerbe really steps it up at OLB he should be gone, too- his salary is a joke especially relevant to his performance. If I saw correctly Wheeler's and Ellerbe's salaries are top 5 on the team, talk about opportunity cost- money better spent on the OL. If I had my way we's have Misi in the middle, Dion Jordan at SOLB where he belongs and Jordan Tripp and Jenkins developing at WOLB with Jenkins a very solid candidate for 3rd down/coverage LB. Wheeler and Ellerbe underperforming is one thing, those two underperforming (especially Wheeler) at those bloated salaries is nauseating.

Oh jesus not the injury excuse on another player. He has been a good player exactly one season in the NFL and people want to act like the year of bad play the anomaly

It made no sense togn Ellerbee to that contract we basically outbid ourselves. Baltimore who knew him best had no interest in giving him that type of money

Its crazy we decide to move the one linebacker that was solid and decide he will play a position he has never played.
