Miami Dolphins running back Kenyan Drake (32) runs in to score in the second quarter as the Buffalo Bills host the Miami Dolphins at New Era Field in Orchard Park, NY on Sat., Dec. 24, 2016. AL DIAZ adiaz@miamiherald.com

• The Dolphins liked some of what they saw from Kenyan Drake last season, and Adam Gase made clear on Thursday that he wants to see more of him.
“He had some good days and some bad days,” Gase said. “He did a great job when we got him in the game. He made some plays. He’s a guy that we’re looking to lean on a little bit more next year. We’d like to find some ways to get him and Damien Williams in, but at the same time not take away from Jay [Ajayi]. We have three really talented players at the running back position that we’d like to find ways to get in the game. Kenyan’s somebody that we’re really interested in trying to find some good matchups for.”
Drake had just 33 carries for 179 yards last season, a robust 5.4 per carry average. He caught nine passes for 46 yards and averaged 30.5 yards on 13 kickoff returns, including a touchdown.
As for Ajayi: “We do need more snaps on offense, which would entail him getting more carries,” Gase said. “He did a great job off coming along last year. We really felt good with the run scheme we were doing, just sticking his foot in the ground and getting vertical and running through tackles. If he didn’t lead the league, he was up there in yards after contact. It was really a great thing to see, his development throughout the year. Hopefully we can go even further with the passing game. He did a do good job of improving in that area. Hopefully we can take an even bigger step.”

Absolutely.

Everybody talks about Carroo . . . . this is the guy we drafted ahead of Carroo in the same round. He absolutely has to have a bigger impact playing a position that is widely considered the most replaceable and easiest position to find in the NFL draft.

Scary the pieces we have if we can put it all together on offense which is why giving Kenny a huge contract isn't a priority in my eyes because if we can just field an "average" defense I trust Gase and the young talent on offense to come thru.

Game changer. That's why solidifying the OL is so critical. You have a great thunder and lightning tandem in the backfield. We need to ride them this year.

That's just it, getting "average" defense from where we are at will be a huge accomplishment. I would love to have Stills back, but not at that price and not with all our holes on defense. It is so disheartening when our offense works down the field to score and the defense gives up a quick touchdown. Or when the defense can't get off the field and our high powered offense sits on the sideline watching. We need a balance on both sides or we will be a lopsided team finishing 8-8.

**** that.

We could have the #1 scoring offense and it wouldn't mean jack **** with an average defense.

Regardless having more than just an "average defense" doesn't seem like a realistic proposition in 2017. Average seems much more attainable. To truthfully field a top defense it takes 2 or 3 really good defensive drafts in a row combined with 2 or 3 solid free agent acquisitions. Certainly there are exceptions but that is probably the best formula for success.

This doesn't make any sense. Lol

We had a bottom ranked defense and our offense wasn't top five in scoring, yet we made the playoffs.

I was disappointed with Drake as a receiver last year. Hopefully he works on his route running as catching ability, I think getting him the ball out in space with his speed and elusiveness would make him a bigger threat.

If you think what happened last year is the norm...wake the freak up...that was an anomaly and extremely rare. Don't bank on it happening again.

The only way Drake gets more snaps is if they don't tender Damien Williams. He was the #2 last year. Makes no sense to tender him @ 1.7M if he's just going to be the #3. Ajayi played 61% of the snaps, Williams 17% and Drake played 11%.

Get drake on the field more. As the year went on he got better and better. If he ups his blocking game then williams could be in trouble.

Damn right brother!! Drake IMO is the next David Johnson. I know that's high praise ,but Drake's a special talent. If Jay didn't become the leagues best RB (PFF #1 rated),
Drake would be our workhorse.
PHINS UP!!!!!

Sustaining drives and having a better defense will mean more touches for Drake, more opportunities for Parker etc. Kind of goes hand-in-hand. If the defense can't get off the field that's a problem.

They like Damian Williams. He made good improvement last season. He will be back.

I want a ****ing Lombardi trophy, not the next "Andy Reid".
