Gase and former offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen made a smart move in 2017 by shifting Jakeem Grant from the slot to the boundary, where he was a lot more productive.

Gase raised eyebrows last July when he announced that Albert Wilson “is not a slot [receiver]. He’s an outside guy” - even though he played the slot a lot in Kansas City.

But after parting ways with Danny Amendola in the spring and trading Kenny Stills on Saturday, receivers coach Karl Dorrell said Wilson and Grant will play a lot in the slot this season.

Putting two of our shortest, fastest and most electric WRs in the spot designed for short, fast electric WRs?

I don't even care that Fitzpatrick targets the slot more than any other QB and this seems like a recipe for success...it's just nice to not have Adam Gase on this team anymore trying to be cute and overthinking this.

Grant didn't do so well in the slot his rookie year. He was better on the boundary but it will be interesting to see what they scheme up.

I read that article and it said Fitzpatrick uses the slot WR 26.7% of the time...by far the most of any QB with at least 600 passes (19.9% is the average). Lets hope he has enough time to throw off a 3 step drop.

but then we can't do the wr screen that worked that one time so now we run it twice every series

Every dc in tbe leagues gonna know the ball must come out quick.

Hope you are ready jakeem they gonna run you into lb and tight safety level harms way an awful lot.

Nice to see we have a get out of jail free card after this year if keem doesn’t do his part.

Not sure about Jakeem the Dream, but I could see Albert Wilson making some hay from the slot.

Heck, he takes handoffs in the backfield and tries to run between the tackles :)

I guess we'll find out with the rest of the NFL is it works cause Wilson only played a few minutes in preseason and Grant didn't play at all

I was thinking this recently. It's stunning that suddenly a lot of this offense's viability is going to come down to whether or not DeVante Parker and a rookie UDFA can make opposing safeties play more than 7 yards off the LOS.

Because if they can't? Hoo boy.

There were a lot of shortcomings in Grant's rookie year. He is a far better player now. He worked his *** off to become versatile and valuable as more than just a returner.

There is a reason they extended him early.

Albert Wilson is a baller.

He's gonna make plays wherever they line him up.

Everyone is focused on how Fitz is streaky and always fades but...

this offense may be perfect for him.

He is now allowed to make all kinds of changes at the line.

He is a smart vet who has seen it all.
