I am very excited about the direction the Dolphins are headed. I believe that if our picks this year pan out, we could be ready for a deep run into the playoffs next year. I know it's early to start talking about 2008 when 2007 has not even started, but I just want to share a few thoughts.

Our current weaknesses: Coming into this year, we had questions all over the OL, we didn't know who our starting QB might be, we didn't have great playmakers on offense, and our secondary needed some help (esp. in the interceptions department). I feel that if the picks from this year pan out (I know at this point it is a big if, but let's assume for the moment that they do), we will have our QB questions answered as Beck will start in 2008, we will have our playmaker in offense as Ginn will become a #1 WR who will stretch the field and allow other offensive weapons such as Ronnie and Chambers to shine and the interior of our line will be better with Satele.

So what does that leave us wanting for?

Well, I still believe that our OL needs to get much better. And next year will be the year when we finally have a dominant (and I mean dominant) OL. So how? Imagine the following scenario:

We pick up Fanseca (the interior OL stud from Pitt in FA). He has been a pro-bowler for the last 6 straight years. Next year's draft will be the deepest at LT in a long, long time. There could be as many as 6-7 first round LT available with as many as 3-4 with a top 10 grade.

Now imagine a line with a stud LT from the draft that we pick up on the first round, Carey back to RT (where he has the potential to be a pro-bowler) and in the interior of our line Fanseca, Satele, and Hadnot. That to me is a potentially dominant OL.

With Beck as our QB, several playmakers on offense (Ginn, Chambers, Ronnie) and a great OL, we would be all set on offense. Perhaps we could also upgrade at TE, we'll have to see how Martin progresses and who is available next year. However, I think the offense for the most part would be set and that it would be a really good mix of players.

So what's left? On special teams, I feel very good with what we have. Ginn should be a stud PR/KR. We have a very accurate kicker. Maybe we'll need a new punter if the one we drafted does not pan out. Let's see.

On defense we will still have a dominant front 7. Maybe the best front 7 in the league. Yes, at some point we will need to replace Zach and Jason, but not yet in 2008.

So what about the secondary. Well I am very hopeful. I think Jason Allen could turnout to be a #1 CB. We will need to wait and see what happens this year. Regardless, our secondary should be average at worst with another year of being together. Perhaps we can get a stud DB in FA next year or in the draft. But all together, I see a top 5 defense in '08 and if it pans out as above, a top 10 offense as well. That has the makings of a deep playoff run.

So what do finheaveners think? Comments?

Who are those 3-4 with a top 10 grade left tackles that you are referring to? I think we'll probably be in the market for a 1st or 2nd round O-lineman next year. Maybe Faneca is possible, who knows? I know I was hoping for a stud left tackle in the draft this year. From what I've heard, Satele should be pretty good though. I am hoping he'll be heading back home to Hawaii in February for the Pro Bowl in the next few years.

Faneca wants to go to Arizona to play for Russ Grimm, he is not coming here.

If the guys from the draft work out and we are smart in FA & draft next year then why not? It is great that everyone is so optomistic but what is important is not to expect too much this year and heap the pressure on guys who are only just in the league, particularly Ginn and Beck.

I think they will win the superbowl in 2051 and they are projected to have a great draft in 2098.

:rolleyes2 Dude not only are you talking about the 2008 season, your making some real leaps to put this team together. It aint Madden buddy, give it some time and lets see how the 2007 season goes, besides where are JT and ZT gonna be in '08, JT was contemplating retirement after last season. live in today not 2 years from now, and his name is "Faneca" no "s"!

first of all i dont think ginn will ever be a #1 reciever in this league, he has a chance to be a major threat any time he touches the ball and his KR/PR abilities will hopefully make an impact this season but as far as the dolphins #1 i dont think he's physical enough to handle opposing teams #1 CB's

Also i highly doubt the fins will open up the checkbook for Faneca since he's aging and there has been an ongoing youth movement with our OL over the last few years

I agree that we could use an upgrade at TE, i dont think we have a go to guy at TE on the roster right now, my hope is that mauia is turned into a TE since he's extremely athletic for a guy his size

Lets see how the 07 season goes before we start thinking about the 08 season.

i do belive that 2098 will be a great draft (look at the guy from the U ,, studddddddd!!) but i belive that 2051 the moon stellers will win it .

The Cardinals have no money to pay him. It ain't happening. Besides they already signed a FA center and Gandy from Buffalo who is going to play gaurd.

Levi Brown is playing at RT and Deuce Lutui was a 1st day draft pick in 2006 and they have more depth than they know what to do with.

Their line was decimated by injuries last year but everyone is healthy so far this year. They lost Leonard Davis to free agency but he absolutely ___ed!!!

Dallas made a huge mistake by giving him all that money.

The Cardinals don't need Faneca, they made their big moves in free agency and the draft.

Jake Long from Michigan and Sam Baker are the two with a potential top 10 grade that are coming out for sure. Clemson's Barry Richardson could sneak in there with a good senior year, and Maryland's Jared Gaither (6'9" 335-350lb range) with a 36 inch vert. could be the 4th, though he's only going to be a junior. He did spend a year at a military school though and could have come out this past draft, but was wise to go back. To my knowledge he's not given up a sack as a LT (played RT this past season but will switch back) and that includes shutting out Mario Williams and Manny Lawson as a true freshman. If he keeps his weight down, he could be a good one in the mold of former UM product Bryant McKinnie.
