Jeff Darlington of the NFL Network will be at Sun Life Stadium today reporting on the Dolphins and their scrimmage. This morning, he did a live report on television and dropped a few interesting tidbits.

Among the most interesting was that he's been told the Dolphins will wait until after the first preseason game on August 8 to decide whether or not to go outside the organization to find a center. If they feel Nate Garner or anyone else they insert as center can't get the job done, they will sign a free agent or trade for someone. The practices leading up to August 8 and the game itself will be the basis for that determination.

In addition, he spoke to general manager Dennis Hickey and was told by him that their best offseason acquisition wasn't a player - it was offensive coordinator Bill Lazor. Hickey and the coaching staff are very excited about the up-tempo offense that Lazor is installing here in Miami and thinks that it will throw a lot of people off guard when they open the season.

Finally, Darlington said that Lamar Miller is looking great so far in camp and the starting job is his to lose. With Knowshon Moreno out for several more weeks, Miller has taken a firm hold on the job and doesn't plan to let go anytime soon.

It doesn't surprise me that the Dolphins will wait until preseason to bring in somebody competent. They have no idea how to manage an offensive line.

what would be possible guys who would be available via trade?

One thing I have kind of noticed is that Joe Philbin is the complete opposite of Steve Ross when it comes to hiring people. Ross spent the off-season publicly chasing big names and got spurned by basically all of 'em.

Joe quietly filled some vacancies with damn good candidates. Benton in particular was a total coup, IMO. I couldn't believe our good fortune to have made such an upgrade to our OL coaching. Interesting contrast, I guess.

I've been trying very hard to temper expectations on Lazor, but I still can't shake the good feeling I get. It comes across loud and clear in interviews with him. He's a sharp guy.

The offensive coaching should be MUCH better this year. Time will tell but i like what i'm hearing so far.

Really hoping Tyler Larsen was a diamond in the rough at center . Guess not.

I find it interesting that the beat writers / James Walker comment on how much better the play design is, especially in the red zone.

We were pretty damn efficient in the red zone last year, so I'm not sure what to make of that.

Ross was out chasing guys like Hickey, Benton and Lazor. Joe was quietly asking Ross to keep Sherman on board, while secretly combing the locker room floor in search of gum wrappers.

Give him a little time. It took Brenner a little while to get up to speed last year. Remember we are still really early in this process, still haven't even played the first preseason game yet. A lot happens every year from this time to openning day.

but of course, you knew that the FIRST hire philbin tried to make was BENTON, right?

yeah, thats right, we ended up with TURNER because benton couldnt get out of his deal with the texans other wise he would have came in with philbin on day one.

lazor is another guy PHILBIN is responsible for. ross didnt know bill lazor from his shaving razor. and all this, "phillbin wanted to keep sherman at all costs" that folks keep slinging around has NO basis in fact. rumors from HATERS who have replaced facts with ignorance and innuendo.

and one last thing, who do you think all those gum wrappers on the floor belong to? dont you think its a shame that philbin would have to tell GROWN MEN not trash their there beautiful facility? this is another thing blown WAAAAAAYYYY out of proportion, but, AGAIN, some have to philbin bash with it.

good for philbin, if this is even true. the military started the saying of, "if you cant do the little things, how can you be trusted with bigger things" which sports adopted. another military term is "the devil is in the details". sports adopted this also. the military commanders at the turn of the last century would put pennies under their bunks to see how detailed they were about policing their area. to raz them for no reason? no. to TEST THERE ABILITY TO PAY ATTENTION TO SMALL DETAILS AS MISSING SMALL DETAILS, EVEN ONE, COULD GET A MAN KILLED.

of course, sports is not war, but, the early coaches, even later ones were ex military and carried these philosophy's with them into coaching telling them that missing even smal, seeminglt insignificant deatils can ruin a play, cost them a game. so true! heck, even VAN HALEN DID THIS!! everyone has heard the story about how in their rider, for each show that a bowl of M&M'S be place on the table with NO GREEN ONES! everyone thought they were being prickish rock stars, they actually didnt even ask for that, their ROAD MANAGER did! he wanted to make sure that each venue was paying attention to the rider contract as things were not being done as per the contracts and many things were not being done. other bands anddo things like throwing in 1 pack of knee hi, white mens socks to get them paying attention so. they put the old "devil in the details" in play. it made those responsible for getting them the things they needed to pay CLOSE ATTENTION to details!!

and this is what philbin was doing with his players. and, thats IF this was even true. he had every right and absolutely should be taking grown men to task for throwing their gum wrapper on the floor instead of in the trash like adults.

bad post KTOWN. i just dont understand why people keep hanging on to all these FALSHOODS like ross being after lazor and benton and INUENDO'S like like " he is always to busy making players pick up THEIR gum wrappers. its silly.

Interesting that Philbin is on top of the details so much like gum wrapers on the floor with the Phins and last year he somehow missed 3 300 plus pound meatheads on his Oline picking on another 300 pound meathead on the line plus or Philbin missed out on them coming in hungover at pratice from partying the night before.

Looks like Satele is it for now...hopefully this is enough until Pouncey comes back.
