Dolphins may open season with all new offensive line

Ryan Tannehill would do well to step up and try to get this unit to coalesce around him. A lot of quarterbacks have made sure their linemen knew good effort was appreciated. RT would be wise to do the same. This is going to be as much a test of his leadership ability as it is anything else.

A what point is this not a bad thing?

For the record, I think Pouncey should not be suspended.

McKinnie is in his mid 30's….I do not mind his pass pro, but his run blocking is awful.
Jon Martin is a swing OT at best….soft and does not improve.
Tyson Clabo is long in the tooth and expecting him to improve next season is fantasy.
Incognito is done.
John Jerry sucks…Wells Report or not…I did not want him back and he should have been replaced in training camp.

Maybe Sam Brenner is in the mix? I think he is a back up. Nate Garner could be a replacement temporarily for Pouncey if he is banned.

However at the end of the day it is not like the 1980's Hogs of the Redskins are all gone.

This will be a great test for Hickey. It will be interesting to see what he does. It is a real test. Time for him to step up!

I think your right Hayden.....may not be a bad thing at all. We might be able to hang on to one or two for depth, but a changeover would be a good thing.

And I don't think Pouncey gets suspended...but there will be some counseling in his future.

That about sums it up although I think you have a little higher opinion of Garner than I do from the threads I reminder during the season. He could play a game or two here and there but can't be a starter full time just not good enough IMO. They have to keep Brenner in the mix not sure what will become of Yeatman. All the other guys (Watkins, Thomas..) can hopefully become back ups, if not get them out. Really hard to replace your whole line and have any success in one year, not for just the sheer number of players to get that are good enough but also to have any real chemistry.

when you suck as bad as the OL did most of the year, it's not a shock... and really we've known for awhile it was possible.

Jerry, McKinney, and Clabo are all FAs. Clabo was awful most of the year, and Jerry was an awful scheme fit.

Well I think first he's going to need to exhibit the kind of play that enables him to be viewed by his teammates as one of the driving forces in their success. Trying to act like a leader without first having crossed that bridge makes one's words in that regard ring hollow in my opinion.

When you've earned your position as a leader by helping the team win reliably, you can then elevate yourself to the status of "leader" in the eyes of your teammates. Doing so prematurely and short-circuiting that process isn't good for either the player in question (i.e., Tannehill) or the team leadership structure in my opinion.

I will point out that having John Benton on the staff (even if Turner isn't gone) is a huge help. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to invest in the OL as well, but having a guy whose got years of NFL experience in the ZBS (with very little "elite" talent on the OL) helps.

LT: Collins / Yeatman
LG: Pouncey (SUSP) / Steen
C: Dietrich-Smith / Garner
RG: Asamoah / Brenner
RT: Hurst / Clabo or Harris

Investment: 2nd and 4th rounders. $6m for Collins, $3m for Dietrich-Smith, $3.5m for Asamoah.
= $12.5m

I agree. Comes from a very successful running enviroment with lots of overall experience. I'm sure he probably has a few "nugget" players out there that he is familiar with that will help the cause also....
