Dolphins | McIntosh will challenge Shelton; maybe Carey too
Sun, 23 Jul 2006 14:06:47 -0700
Jason Cole, writing for the Sporting News, reports Miami Dolphins OL Damion McIntosh will challenge OT L.J. Shelton for the team's starting left tackle position. McIntosh needs to overextend less, but he has quicker feet than Shelton, an edge that could still keep him in the hunt for a starting role. A move to the right side of the line, where OT Vernon Carey is the starter, also could be possible

cole usually had great info while with the herald,,houck will put together a good line and hopefully we'll even have some depth, thank the good lord for our new coach

He is going to rotate in and out with them the whole game. Period.

If the player "A" is doing well then he stays in the game or if player "A" is not doing so well then he comes out of the game for player "B" which will be McIntosh.

I'm confident with the guys we have that a good rotation is very possible.

it seemed to work last year, moving them in and out. I was stunned that it worked...I'm drinking the Hudson koolaid now.

we will def have a good rotation this year

I dont know how you can say he's going to do something, period. We dont know, really.

We rotated tackles early last season, and then stopped. Was it because one was worse then each other, or because we wanted to keep the big maulers fresh during the heat, or what?

IMO, last year was a blast during camp watching the HH magic begin. CK was breaking down the o-line play for us, Ohiofinfan and others were offering commentary it was great for a line junkie like me. I can hardly wait. Our line has to improve over last year, Daunte won't pull the trigger as fast, we have to sustain our blocks AND block better one on one. We stunk at run blocking last year most of our plays were disrupted on our side of the line of scrimmage. If we can get Ronnie Brown past the line of scrimmage clean he will kill the db's. AND we have a fullback that can block. RB is going to punish the db's so badly our receivers are going to be taking him out to dinner.

This is news? Anyone could've "speculated" this. Jason is doing nothing special here.

The rotation stopped when Stockar started to play like crap.

With Shelton, Carey and McIntosh as the tackles. It is certain that these players will be interchangable as the game goes on.

Offensive linemen do not rotate like they do on the other side of the ball. The longer 5 guys play together the better they play as a unit. It's important for them to know what the guy next to them is doing under every circumstance.

you know, I've lived my whole life believing it was a terrible thing to move them in and out, but Hud did last year and it worked. I'm not arguing the point of longer = better, I'm commenting on last year and my surprise.

I can only hope that we have enough quality OL to rotate depending on down and situation.

Its true that there will be some unfamiliarity of knowing what the guy next to you is going to do in certain situations at first but with time that will be smoothed over and we will have the added possibility of confusing the defenses.

What I wouldnt like to see is the OL penalties that plagued us in the early part of last season.
