The Dolphins have picked Chris Grier as their new GM.

The Miami Dolphins were not without a general manager very long.

Chris Grier, who has been with the Dolphins 16 seasons, has been tapped as the general manager to succeed Dennis Hickey. The only thing remaining from this becoming official are contract details that are expected to be ironed as early as Monday.

Grier has been the team director of college scouting and is widely respected in NFL personnel circles. Grier joined the Dolphins after spending five years with the New England Patriots.

The list of successful personnel men and NFL general managers that vouch for Grier is ample. Among these: Jerry Reese of the New York Giants, Dave Gettleman of the Carolina Panthers, Rick Spielman of the Minnesota Vikings and Hall of Famer Bill Parcells.

Grier just completed his 21st NFL season and is no stranger to talent evaluation because he basically grew up in it. Grier's father Bobby Grier was in the New England Patriots front office from 1982-99. Bobby Grier is currently the senior personnel advisor with the Houston Texans.

willing to give up authority over roster decisions if it means hiring the right candidate. In other words, Tannenbaum does not want his own power to limit a search that is expected to include high-level candidates who would require some level of authority on roster decisions

Just don't know anything about the guy really. Hoping for the best. Guys been here 16 years, I don't forsee much changing for us draft wise. We know who is in control anyways... TB.

Yeah I just don't know enough about him. Does anyone have a bio? All this is, is a way for tannebaum and ross to get around the rooney rule. Tannenbum is our gm folks. Smdh.

Watch for Dennis Hickey to be the next GM of the Browns.

I liked Hickey , he actually didn't screw up the draft. J.James hasn't been amazing but he's been solid, and we finally have playmakers in Landry and Parker. Jordan Philips has shown flashes as well

Typical. I've been in wait and see mode with Tannenbaum, but this latest report regarding the power struggles within the organization followed by this hire does not bode well for his intentions.

Before the first interview he has decided to effectively keep the last word over personnel, thereby limiting our options at the HC position to someone willing to work without last say over the roster, and willing to work for a first time GM beneath a full time micromanager in Tannenbaum. Why the need to promote Grier so soon? Because he's Tannenbaum's yes man, General Manager only in title.

I am really, really not liking the Tannenbaum hire right now.

Two thoughts on this 1) This guy has seen a serious amount of buffoonery in the front office if he has been here for 16 years and 2) The next HC is already in place if they're naming a GM already. Then again i wouldn't put this franchise past pulling such an ill advised move to hamper their coaching search.
