Right now, they have about 6 million in cap space. By cutting both of them they will save 16 millions against the cap with no hit according to over the cap.

Hell, I would even look at cutting Juwaan James to save an additional 9 million, and maybe Pouncey for seven million. But it is time to retool this o-line with draft picks and salary cap space. It doesn't matter who is under center if our oline continues to suck.

Wouldn’t we have to wait until the offseason to cut Maxwell without the cap hit?

In the offseason, absolutely. All of them. That will open up some cap room.

I do agree with dumping Julius Thomas immediately, though. He’s useless. Maybe worse, because his softness, lack of effort, and lack of toughness can infect the rest of the roster and be contagious. That opening drive was solid against the Saints until that idiotic end zone play set the tone the rest of the way.

I would be okay with letting Julius go. I mean, wow he's done.

I'd sign Duarte to take over.

Maxwell is still valuable and shouldn't be let go until the season's over.

I said the same thing even before last week's game. Last year Gase shot across the bow by cutting dead weight that wasn't highly-paid. This year he may have to do it with these guys here, who are highly-paid but who don't cost any dead money against the cap next year.

I wouldn't cut Ja'Wuan James, though. Sooner or later you have to stick with homegrown talent and let it start building something long-term.

The long-term nucleus here in my opinion consists of players like Tannehill (if rehabilitated), James, Tunsil, Ajayi, Landry, Parker, Harris, Godchaux, McMillan, Howard, Tankersley, McDonald, and Jones.

The players I would look at letting go of are the ones noted in the thread here, as well as Pouncey, Bushrod, Stills (in trade), Alonso, Timmons, and Suh.

Just to clarify - I meant in the off-season (2018) for all cuts. These numbers reflect cap savings in the next league year.

I think the in-season cuts of Thomas and Maxwell would have a huge, positive effect on the rest of the roster, as long as they're coupled with benching Cutler for Moore.

Both signings were under Gase watch. Added Manualuga. Gase needs to cut himself first.

No cut James. He actually played well against Chargers and Jets but not so well in the Saints game. But Maxwell and Thomas are definitely getting cut.

Actually, here's a list of players that should be back next season
on offense
Tanny
Ajayi
Drake
Parker
Stills
Carroo
Grant
Gray
Tunsil
James
Asiata
I'd love to have Landry back but not sure we can afford him. Maybe time for Carroo to step in?

Defense
Wake
Harris
Suh
Taylor
Godchaux
MaCmillan
Anthony
Kiko....can't cut him with his contract now
Tank
Lippett
Howard
Jones
TJM

Everyone else can go imo

Ozzy rules!!

Yes, I agree! Firing people makes everyone realize that if they are dead weight they get kicked out. I wish Miami would hire me to fire people. I’d do the for free; just straight up enjoyment of telling freeloaders to get the **** OUT!

Ultimately Julius Thomas is on Gase. It was his decision to bring this guy into the fold, hoping to Revive his career. Maxwell is on Tannenbaum, and if weren’t for the luck, that Tunsil fell into Miami’s lap, this schmuck trade Tannenbaum made would look even worse, than Maxwell plays. It’s a nooooooo brainer that both Thomas and Maxwell are getting cut after this season. I still wish they’d grow another pair and cut their asses today.
