Dolphins | Not moving in on Carter
Sat, 2 Aug 2008 03:01:08 -0700

Harvey Fialkov, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports Miami Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano reiterated Friday, Aug. 1, that the work out of free-agent QB Quincy Carter was just that - a work out. "It was just a tryout," Sparano said. He said Carter looked fine and threw the ball well. "We flipped over a rock. That's where we are," Sparano said.

Is anyone really surprised? Someone mentioned in a previous thread that Parcells likely told him he would give him a look if he every cleaned up. He likely stayed true to his word.. a look see doesn't mean a contract.

hes been out of the nfl for 4 years, couldnt cut it in in the CFL or Afl2, if we did sign him he would be a camp arm for a few weeks

Not moving on Carter "yet".

The team also was impressed with Thursday's workout of former NFL starter Quincy Carter, who could wind up on the roster if he can get into better shape. Carter has been advised by the team not to discuss his workout -- and instead focus on conditioning. Coach Tony Sparano, vice president of football operations Bill Parcells and general manager Jeff Ireland all attended the throwing and agility session.

Carter is back in Kansas City, Mo., where his season for the Arena Football League's Brigade recently ended. Sparano was quiet about it Friday, resisting to offer any type of scouting report on Carter and instead noting, ``He looked fine.''

Soon, the coach will decide whether Carter's assets and arm strength would make him a viable candidate in this competition. It appears there are no major concerns about him having a relapse after his recent stint in drug rehabilitation.

I really never liked Quincy Carter when he was with Dallas, much of his success was over rated to begin with. But i dont see how bringing in a guy who is familiar with people like Sparano and several other of the Dolphins (Cowboys) coaches, and Parcells and Jeff Ireland could really hurt the team. Certainly Quincy Carter isn't coming in to be a long term solution or starter for the next ten years, simply to provide another possible band aid on an ugly wound this team has had for many years. At least until they can find something better......

I think he would have been worse than the QBs we already have on the roster. I didn't expect much to come of it, a big deal about nothing.
