Dolphins | Not unhappy with current quarterbacks

Updating previous reports, the Associated Press reports Miami Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano said working out free-agent QB Quincy Carter Thursday, July 31, was not a sign he is unhappy with the team's current quarterbacks. He said he has been pleased with QBs Josh McCown, John Beck and rookie Chad Henne. He noted Carter's workout is not a sign the team is looking to go in a different direction.

Usually they cite sources.. so make of it what you will and what many of us already know... Coachspeak is in full gear. It's going to be a very interesting preseason!:(

I'm on the side that agrees beck should be showing more. but beyond that, I hope they all improve.

It's easy to forget Beck is only a 2nd year NFL QB. He's not going walk into this leage and be a Marino type player. And to be honest, besides Dan, i don't know too many that are.

It seems unless Beck can get back to his old throwing form, he's not going to make it in this league. Until then, we're going to have to rely on McCown and wait for Henne to develop.

I agree really other than Dan what quaterback really ever came into the league killing it. They all go through a rough stretch in the beginning.

Their sources are probably one of the local newspapers.

The Dolphins already have Josh McCown, John Beck and rookie Chad Henne in camp. Sparano said Carter’s tryout is not an indictment on the other three.
“i have been pleased with the three quarterbacks and what they’ve done right now. I think the competition is really good,” Sparano said. “It just means we’ve got to make sure we’re doing our due diligence on players that are available.”

On if he's bringing in Quincy because he's not pleased with the current quarterback situation) – "Not at all, it sure doesn't. In fact I have been pleased with the three quarterbacks and what they've done right now and I think the competition is really good. It just means that we need to make sure we're doing our due diligence on players that are available."

You have to remember they are working with Beck to change how he throws the ball. Bad Idea IMO. You spend your entire life throwing the ball one way and you are successful at it. Trying to learn how to throw a different way will throw off any QB, some more than others especially when the NFL is much faster and the coaches and fans have little patience waiting for improvement. The inconsitency you see in camp from Beck I feel is a direct result of changing his mechanics in throwing. Every ball has been a wounded duck, and Beck had a really good tight spiral before that.

Imagine if they tried changing Bernie Kosars throwing motion?

In the end I think this will make Beck look worse and in turn it will lead to his demise in Miami. I have a feeling that if by the 2nd preseason game, maybe sooner he doesn't improve Beck will be out of here and you may see:

Starer: McCown
2nd: Free Agent
3rd: Henne

This will gegnerate two results, those that say.."well what did you expect Tony to say?" and those that say "see, all those that panic over the QB performances need to relax."

I think Logically Quincy has been out for so long, his try out can't be considered seriously. For anyone to think this was ment to motivate or scare however you want to use the metaphor, we as fans tend to overreact to everything we read these days. I wonder if the coaches actually spent the time to sit down and read what us fans were taking from the moves and decision they make or the things we see and read from camp they'd get quite a good laugh.

But do you really think he would come straight out and say "im dissapointed by the production thus far and i am starting to get worried"...of course he wont say that even if it is true. That is a typical coach answer.

I agree with everything except the order in which you have the 1st, 2nd and 3rd string. Who ever is brought in as a free agent is either there to start flat out or sit not to compete, its between Henne and Mccown so i think if its close they Just use Henne, he has more upside present and future.

You must be psychic.

There you go!

If Beck (or anyone else) was killing it out there, you really think he would still bring in Quincy Carter for a workout? Yeah, me neither...
