When a team commits more than $155 million to its offensive line, you don't expect a pretty good unit, but a great one. So far, coach Tony Sparano said his line has not played up to his standards, and new center Jake Grove said ``we need to be better.''
Though they were inconsistent in creating holes in the preseason, lines need time to develop continuity, and the Dolphins aren't worried. ``To me, they've gotten better each week,'' Sparano said. ``Some people might say they didn't get better against Tampa. I would argue there were some individual performances that were pretty good. I've got really high standards for where I think those guys should be, and I think they'll get there.''

The Falcons have a real poor run defense. Last year the Falcons ranked in bottom pile league when it came to rushing yards allowed per game and their 4.9 yards allowed per carry was the 4th most in the NFL. This should help the Fins run the ball and the line gel. Also a little note the Falcons defense is super undersized. Our o-line averages about 315 while their D-line averages about 280. Their three starting LBs are under 250. Can't wait to see our mammoth line against their tiny Defense.

I like how Grove has taken a leadership row on the line. It needed a leader and I hope they have a great season.

if we spent billions of dollars on our oline then ricky , ronnie , Cobbs and a runningback on crutches should By God be able to blast throught that line of scrimmage. thats waste of money if our backs cant even cross the line of scrimmage.

I don't want to draw any conclusions yet when the regular season games haven't even started but the play we saw in the preseason certaintly does not justify the price tag.

well since he is an O-line coach i would imagine he would never be happy with his line regardless of what they are doing.

if we get the push like we did vs Carolina i think we will do well running between the tackles and win TOP which is always a team like ours goal.

I have always thought this would be a good game. I think their O is dynamic but we are gonna thrown alot of new looks at Ryan that may thrown him off.....and i think their weak D will allow us to run and throw short manageable passes giving us at the minimum third and shorts allowing us to stay on the field wear down their D and most importantly keep Ryan and the lot off the field.

I hope our O-line comes out strong, but I think it'll likely take a few weeks for them to start creating big running lanes. I do think, though, that they'll get there. Just might take a little while.

This is no surprise, Our Oline is no good. We have a great LT, injury prone guards and center, and a consistently healthy but average RT.

Well I certainly agree with Sporano with that comment. I sure hope his offseason conditioning program can keep Smiley, Thomas and Grove healthy. Lots of money in some gimpy players.

thats what will make our oline great

I've been really disappointed with our running game. Unlike many in the passing game, although bombs downfield a re sexy to watch.. moving the chains are more important. Watching our running backs consistently being hit in the backfield is sorely disappointing. I expect much much more from our line with the talent we have in the backfield.

they've been extremely below average thus far. those gorillas need to earn those paychecks.

3 games in 11 days. thats all I am gonna say. Its preseason. Is it farfetched to believe these guys are just waiting for the real sparks to fly?

Not worried. Just coach pumpin up his squad.

There not playing up to my standards either...

They have been a disappointing group thus far. But as a poster stated it takes time to come together. They should provide a good push against Atl, get better every week, and dominate by mid season, barring injury.

I am glad he is calling these guys out. Behind punt coverage, which I have basically just accepted is going to suck AGAIN, the Oline is my key area of concern. I hope he expects a great line. That report was dead-on...we paid hundreds of millions of dollars to get pushed around like she-punks vs Tampa Bay? And Grove should take note. Hes been Underwhelming since hes been here.

The poster here made a good point. ATLs D line is undersized. We have big OLmen, big TEs, big RBs. There is no reason we shouldnt rack up 200 yards rushing and control the clock and the game. If we don't, something is wrong somewhere.

Get on 'em Tony. Don't let them get all comfy with their overpaid contracts. Make them earn their money.

Big fan 'eh, know a lot about pre season football do ya'. :ponder:That's why we showed 'um just what we could do..... Oline no good..... I think every Dolphan and everybody at PhinHeaven should take exception to your comment, I sure the f*** do! :ponder:
