Traditionally NFL teams rest their starters for the vast majority of the final preseason game, satisfied they have reached a sufficient level of sharpness after fake game No. 3.
Miami Dolphins coach Tony Sparano, however, might be tempted to go against tradition next Thursday at New Orleans after watching his team slog through a 10-6 win over Tampa Bay.
"I don't know what he's going to do," Dolphins quarterback Chad Pennington said Thursday. "I know what we've got to do is focus on having some good practices from here on out. Then we'll see what coach wants us to do that last preseason game.
"If he wants us to play, we'll play. I'm up for anything as long as we're getting better."
Sure, the Dolphins' first-team offensive line stayed in the game until about 14 minutes remained, but it's not like Jake Long and Co. were overly sharp. They allowed two sacks, one each to Pennington and backup Chad Henne, and both times it was right tackle Vernon Carey who broke down.
