The Dolphins continue to work toward a trade for Detroit Lions quarterback Joey Harrington, who already expressed his desire to join the team.
The deal is hung up on how much Saban is willing to give up in the trade. As of last week, the Dolphins were offering a fourth-round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft.
"We'd like to get that done, but we don't control that totally," Saban said. "You have to be a little patient so you don't do something that's foolish relative to what you give up."
Saban said the Dolphins also were interested in drafting a quarterback with their third-round pick  either Alabama's Brodie Croyle or Clemson's Charlie Whitehurst.
Whitehurst was selected by San Diego one pick before the Dolphins' third-round choice, while Croyle was selected three picks later by Kansas City.
