• Pouncey said Monday he feels like he has the playbook figured out — now
it’s just a matter of learning more about defensive schemes. “At center, you’ve
got to piece defenses with the offensive plays,” he said. He feels like he has
made great strides with the mental side of his game and has “no doubt” he can
succeed as a starting center for this team.

• Carey said his transition from right tackle to right guard was initially
“weird,” but he has since moved past that. “I’m starting to come around,
understanding that I can be really good at it if I put my mind to it,” he said.
Sparano said Carey is working toward getting a twitch faster to succeed at
guard — an area where he improved last week in practice.

• Right tackle Marc Colombo, 32, is the newest addition to the group. And
he’s approaching his job that way. On his day off Sunday, he went to the team’s
facility to break down film. But he didn’t do it alone. Pouncey said Colombo
dragged the rookie with him to make sure the young guy is getting as much work
as he needs.

• At left guard, Incognito should benefit most from Long’s return. That’s
not a knock on Murtha — but the simple reality of Long’s contributions to the
left side of the line. With a rookie in Pouncey to his right, Incognito
shouldn’t need to worry about the left tackle position at all. With Long there,
he won’t have to.

• And finally, there’s Long. Sparano said he isn’t concerned about whether
Long gets any repetitions during the final two preseason games, noting his
practice repetitions with this group are more important. The Dolphins have been
patient with Long’s recovery from an unspecified injury (he is wearing some
serious hardware to protect his surgically repaired knee). Don’t expect them to
rush it now.

Former Giants center Shaun O’Hara, who visited the Dolphins three weeks ago, is
contently waiting in the wings. He is still interested in signing with Miami,
and the Dolphins have not closed the door on adding him. At this point, both
sides still understand where each one stands.

This is what I don't get about Sparano (well, one thing )

- Why does he continuously juggle the line?

As a former o-line coach, he should really understand the need for the unit to gel. Watch him push to sign O'Hara, then plug him in at center, and move Pouncey to LG, Incognito to RG, & Carey back to RT. Followed by swapping them out around week 4.

if this line struggles to start the season or we sustain an injury to any of the interior oline starters ohara will be here within a nanosecond...they're just sitting on him as insurance

they better hurry up though cause other teams are gonna start needing reinforcements here soon also...and he's not gonna wait around for us

I liked what I saw in the Carolina game. Hopefully they can keep it up.

We really want cohesion, but let's sit around and wait to sign O'Hara later, so that we'll instantly have less cohesion when that happens.

Sparano's tenure here will be the tale of how a former OL coach could never get his OL settled in his four years as a head coach. Amazing.

Beyond O'Hara, there is still roster cuts, waiver wire pick ups and practice squads stash aways. Why jump the gun on O'Hara now, might see some decent youth out there.

Agreed, why did they bother even signing Colombo? I would rather they had signed O'Hara.

What Idont get is if O'Hara is so good...why is he still a FA? And Im not being sarcastik here,I really want to know...

I think you are living in the past from two weeks ago. The line has been Murtha, Incog, Pouncey, Carey, Columbo this past week. The new juggling will simply be Long coming back and maybe Murtha takes Columbo's spot. But as you can read up top, Columbo is dragging the rookie to learn. Some things in life are not seen.

Its obviously injury and the league has spent there dough. Including us but we have some room.

for one, O'Hara is 34 and for two, he has been battling injuries for a few seasons now. certainly still a good player, but he's in the Jake Grove league of durability these days.
