Dolphins open to trading Mike Gesicki, per Jeremy Fowler

We should get a comp pick for him at least since its doubtful we're players in FA.

Ahh, I misunderstood.

You think they tagged him with the intention of trading him later? I don't see that as very wise, if it was the case. Or are you just saying, based on how things worked out?

They definitely didn’t tag him with the hope of trading him. I have zero doubt they’d have taken anything for him just before the season started to clear all 10.9M.

It’s a unique situation. Made sense to tag him at the time just the way it makes sense to trade him now, if you can.

Which one of those players was traded in season?

I’m guessing if you took those several TE’s, let’s just say top 5, and averaged their salaries together, I bet it would be really close to what Gesicki is making this year. Like reallly, really close.

There’s a reason why teams are leery to trade for a tagged player in season, or after July 15th, because you can’t re-sign him before free agency. Which is non-sense.
The top 5 TEs average would be around $14 million, MG is making $10.9

I'm on the fence. On the one hand, he doesn’t seem to fit this offense. On the other hand none of the other TE's are doing anything and really, we have become a two WR's offense. None of the other WR's have step up as the number 3 option so whenever Hill or Waddle needs a breather we're really lacking weapons and Gesicki at least can catch. I'm not his biggest fan but who are we left with if we trade him?

At the same time if is a good trade offer then we need to listen to what the offer is.

I think it was part of the plan, at least. Obviously if he developed as blocker this year things would have played out differently.

The fact that they don’t have easy E at least dressed is a travesty. Rookie receivers are playing all over the NFL and our guy can’t even be dressed.
I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. He’s not one of our top 3 receivers, and he doesn’t play special teams, so Cracraft and Sherfield are active

Finheaven wanted a "Seam threat" TE for years and finally got one.....was basically what I always said the idea of a seam threat TE is overrated.

As others have pointed out (and I agree), had we known we would be acquiring Hill, I doubt we tagged MG. That fact that Hill/Waddle are literal "Hoover vacuums" of targets (and rightfully so) will probably cost Mike 40-50 receptions this season.

Let's be honest here, MG is almost never going to be the first read, and not often the second in this offensive design.
That is what hoops and I pointed out. Most of Gesicki’s production the past two seasons was forced out of necessity. There just weren’t many better options at the skill positions.

I’d use him as a WR since Wilson isn’t doing jack ****. Hunter Long hasn’t proven to be anyone to cheer for so losing MG would be bad.

He'll be a star for whoever trades for him. Prime example of wasted talent

Beyond that, Tua's best attribute is getting the ball out quickly and with accuracy. Hill and Waddle are both the type of receivers who are "quick twitch", with the kind of speed that defenses must respect. They fit our QB's strengths perfectly.

MG, on the other hand, is not quick off the line and is not sudden in and out of breaks. If our line was better, and gave a QB more time, I have no doubt that MG would still often be a mismatch, and get more opportunities. Sadly, for many reasons, that is not the case.

Yep. And that’s why I wanted Miami to draft Waddle over Ja’Marr Chase. Waddle is a much better fit for Tua. That is also the reason Parker needed to be replaced.
