Dolphins | Opponents in 2006 had a losing record in 2005

<A href="http://www.kffl.com/link/166">Alex Marvez, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports the combined 2005 record of the Miami Dolphins' opponents this season is 120-136, with only five (New England, Indianapolis, Chicago, Pittsburgh and Jacksonville) coming off playoff appearances

That's pretty easy when 2 of your divisional opponents sucked last year and we're playing the NFC North (1 good, 1 OK and 2 sucky) in the inter-conference games and the AFC South (1 great, 1 decent, 2 sucky) in the intra-conference games.

On the schedule teams who were weak last year and may be able to turn it around this year: Titans (I won't ever write off a Jeff Fisher coached team), New york Jets (their '05 was reminiscent of our '04), Detroit (Years of high drafting have to mean something eventually, even Cinci have turned a corner).
Other teams like the Bills, Texans, Packers, and Vikings seem to be undergoing some real front office turmoil, which is a recipe for continued underachieving.
Against that New England are early candidates for going backwards because of their FA losses (not a theory I subscribe to, but many do), Chicago are vulnerable because of their QB situation and Minnesota look set for an implosion. Even after losing the Edge Indianapolis look to be dominant barring a major rash of injuries.

Whilst I'm not a big fan of getting into prediction this far ahead of the season our schedule is going to give us an advantage unless at least 2 or 3 teams who sucked last year turn around and improve into winners and none of the winning teams go backwards. On paper that should give us an advantage over a team like the Bengals who have to play the NFC South and AFC West, who have more playoff potential teams than the divisions we've drawn.

2005 has nothing to due with 2006. I dont get these comparisons.

The problem with ranking opponents this way is that you don't know how good or bad they are going to be this coming year...for example, many teams penciled in a W at Miami prior to the 2005 season. Same with Cincy, how many thought they'd blossom like they did ?? And who thought the Jests would lose both their QBs in mid season ?? Who thought Chicago would be a good as they were ???

No, I don't look at things quite like that...I prefer to concentrate on being good enough this year to beat the Jest and Jills and split the Pats...after that, there'll be a few teams we can beat, enough to get us into the playoffs...from there, who knows...

You are exactly right God, strength of schedule means nothing. Just because a team was good/bad last year does not mean they will be the same way the following year. Of course there will be a few teams that are still rebuilding and easy pickins, but as everyone knows in the NFL any team can win on any given day. :D
