Brian Flores’ decision to name Ryan Fitzpatrick the Dolphins’ starting quarterback was met with little surprise, and much delight, in the locker room.

“Great decision,” Miami center Daniel Kilgore said. “I mean, it’s obviously the head coaches’. If it went the other way, I would be behind that decision as well. Both guys have worked really well this offseason and this preseason. I think Fitz is going to step right in and do what he always does. And do a great job leading this team. And go out and make plays and really just be a pro about it.”

Kilgore said Fitzpatrick’s intelligence, even keel and positive demeanor make Fitzpatrick “a guy I want to go out and fight for.” Fitzpatrick endeared himself to teammates almost as soon as he arrived in South Florida.

They have to get behind whoever the QB is. For sure I think Preston Williams would prefer Rosen. They had much better chemistry

Did they ask Preston?

It's not a popularity contest....Fitz has been liked everywhere he has been. This really doesn't matter as far as who should be the starting QB. I don't care who they played against, BOTH QBs were constantly under pressure during the preseason and Rosen clearly out played Fitz by a country mile. My guess is they are trying to protect Rosen a bit against a tough opening schedule against very good D's and give our OL a chance to get their legs....as much as they will anyways. Then, put Rosen in after the bye, depending on where we are at.

The other thing is preseason is very vanilla play calling, maybe during practice with the full playbook being utilized, Fitz is showing more command and understanding at this point. Might be the case, but Rosen was clearly the better QB in preseason play.

True all true...
Rosen will get his chance...

Yes, of course because players are worried about the short term and not the long term. Fitz may win you 2 more games than Rosen but what does that matter? Worse draft pick? Less evaluation time on Rosen?

I'm guessing it's for two games, but we'll soon find out.

Unless you mean by your guess that Fitz will not show enough in the first 2 games and be replaced I disagree - No coach will remove a QB who is the "hot hand"....starting and the team is winning games. If we win with Fitz, he'll remain in until things turn. If we go on a streak that will just leave Rosen on the bench longer.

We don’t have a hot hand so that is a moot point -

Rosen will get his chance finishing games and then he will also get a chance to start when Fitz is injured (past tense)
