It all depends on whether they can find someone worthwhile to spend some of that cap space on. Fields needs a few WRs.
Problem is that there aren't many options out there better than what they have. They added Claypool, who could be a solid addition but as it turned out the Bears are now giving away what will likely be pick 34-36. That's brutal, I think the Steelers hoodwinked Chicago on that deal by telling them Green Bay was giving up a 2nd as well. I am sure Chicago tried to move the Ravens 2nd instead of their own.
I like Mooney, Claypool, Kmet, they just need a No.1. Easy to say.
Free agency offers nothing in terms of WR's, hence the move for Claypool. Nelson Agholor, Ju-Ju Smith-Schuster, Jakobi Myers, guys like that top the 2023 FA list for WR's.
Bears biggest problems lie on defense and its not even close so that top pick will definitely go to that side of the ball, especially with the OT returning to Penn State.
Best case scenario for Chicago is to land at 2, and trade down to 3 with Carolina. They get a butt load of assets, still get The Terminator and freeze out the Lions from the top 2 QB's.
Darnell Mooney and Eddie Jackson going to IR in the last 24 hours......Bears are locked into the top 3. Looking at the Broncos schedule though, it appears the Seahawks are more likely to get that 2nd pick than Chicago. Denver has one winnable game and that's against the Rams (Detroit's 4th overall selection). Rams have a couple winnable games, at least more than Denver who still has to play KC twice and the Chargers.
Fans in Miami and Chicago will be rooting for Denver to beat Kansas City......twice.
I'd love to see the Bears move down in the first and then move up and secure a kid like Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the 20's, if he falls. Which he probably shouldn't be considered top 15 right now so thats a possibility.
The only scenario that's less than ideal for Chicago is if the Bears are at 2 and Lions are at 3. Then you have a really tough decision to make, which is why even though you don't plan on taking a QB you need to scout the F out of Young and Stroud so you can decide if its worth letting Detroit have one of them.
For those with a better feel for the Georgia program, I am curious where a lot of people see Jalen Carter in terms of potential vs. Will Anderson Jr.
