I like Gase.

"The Dolphins’ first practice in preparation for their first-round playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers had a different twist.

For the first time in about two months, the players were in full pads.

“It was good,” guard/center Kraig Urbik said. “I liked it. We haven’t gone out in pads in weeks, since the Tuesday after the bye week. Guys were kind of surprised by it, but I thought it was great to get out there and hit. We haven’t done that in a while. It was kind of one of those things where we’ve had walk-throughs and helmet-type practices and you get to the game and you’re full speed. I think this is a great idea to do this. I feel great after practice. I don’t feel sore or anything like that. I like it a lot.”

Head Coach Adam Gase said the reason for the full pads was the performance against the New England Patriots last Sunday, a performance with which he clearly wasn’t happy.

“After watching what we put out there last week, we needed to do something different,” Gase said. “We’re not going to stay the same.”

Special teams standout Walt Aikens said the message was simple and received.

“It’s basically the level of intensity changes when you get to the playoffs,” he said. “It has to start now. We had to bring it out there and really go at each other. We stayed safe, but at the same time we got a good workout, got some contact and went after each other and got better today.

“It’s good. It gets us fired up. We’ve got to go out there and be physical. It’s going to be a physical game. It’s the playoffs, so you’ve got to step your game up. We came out there with the mentality today no matter what it is we’re going to go out and compete, and that’s what we did.” "

hope it doesn't have the opposite effect

cause physicality to my eye isn't the issue but more personnel based :idk:

I embrace the shakeup in practice. It gives the mentality of "this is to be expected it's the playoffs" into the players minds that it's no cakewalk from here on out.

Dolfans we finally got a coach.

I like his reasoning. "We came out like **** against NE last week, so somethings gotta change. We won't stay the same."

They played soft! You don't let Drunken Floyed over-power 20 defenders to the endzone like that.

that play was overrated cause kiko dove into him with his lower half and not wrapping up due to his thumb but fair enough...a mindset change on how physical things will be in the postseason probably is a good call

Seems he got the team responding good to the physical practice. I like it.

They're already down to practice squaders on defense anyway so what's one more injury just because they hit each other a little at practice?

They needed that. Going full pads during practice gives you a totally different mindset about what you "thought" the day was going to be like. I'm sure they knew Gase was all business when he told them to strap up today. Practices like that are what get you over the hump. We really have nothing to lose so a little banging wouldn't hurt us one bit. Should get our heads ready for Sunday!

I think the physical practice helps the less talented players better prepare for the upcoming game.

If we are gonna have the "Puncher's chance", we have to take some punches. No time to hold back now.

I like this guy. We found a COACH fellas!

Maybe not physicality itself but going full speed in practice would expose mistakes and make players realize they can't just loaf through practice. One player screws up and you know where it's coming from...

If it was half speed/no pads its not as visible. Sort of like stress testing a race car. Sometimes you don't know there's a problem until you get up to 6,000 RPM's.

Just my take.
