For all the talk of the Dolphins needing a top receiver, they didn't pursue Terrell Owens, T.J. Houshmandzadeh or any veteran; passed on Hakeem Nicks and Kenny Britt to draft cornerback Vontae Davis; and didn't offer Arizona a first-round pick for Anquan Boldin.

No one appreciates this more than Ted Ginn Jr. ''They didn't need to get someone else,'' Ginn said, meaning no slight to draft picks Patrick Turner and Brian Hartline. ``We already have a good receiver corps.''

Ginn said he wants to raise his game ''to another level,'' and the Dolphins have challenged him, starting with general manager Jeff Ireland's remark last month that ``it's time for Ted Ginn to really show what he was drafted here to do.''

I really expect big things out of him this year. I think that as the offense really opened up last year, you saw more results from him. I still don't understand how people can even try to get any good idea of his skills or ability from year 1. That is almost always difficult for rookies, but when combined with the TERRIBLE coaching of Cam, the QB carousel which included Cleo Lemon and the rookie John Beck throwing him the ball, didn't help one bit. Then no running game to help the passing game either, very few if any receivers could have had any kind of real success. It really helps having Pennington, a QB who when you run your route the way it is supposed to be ran, the ball will be there, who if you get open, you will get the ball, that is huge for a WR. All Ginn has ever needed was the mental aspect to come to him, because say what you will about him, you can't argue pure undeniable speed, and actually very good hands. Not one WR can ever claim to have not dropped a pass. Obviously the one thing I would like to see from him is to not have the propensity to get down right away, or try to find the sidelines. I am telling you, Ginn is going to be a pleasant surprise this year. I think he gets close to a 1000 yards, which considering the way Pennington distributes the ball, will be a testament to Ginn's improvement.

I dont even understand the Ginn haters....
Rookie year was on a trash team and he showed raw talent.
2nd year got thrown in a new scheme with a new QB and made some of the best catches of the year on the team and ran in 2 td's.
I admit he is not Calvin Johnson but come on now

i hated the pick when it happened, and to this day the pick gets me mad, but ted ginn has grown on me and i think he's a terrific football player who is only 24. Before it's all said and done, i bet he wins a super bowl with us and gets to ride with Mickey.

I'll agree with this, I HATED the pick when it first happened (almost fell off my stool in a bar) but now that there is a new regime (exit morons) i feel that Ginn will be heading in the right direction

It seems like this would only be his 2nd year playing, seeing as his 1st year was just an absolute waste. He was taught nothing about the game, they just put him on the field and expected him to play

He has been steadily improving since we drafted him two years ago. He dramatically increased his numbers in 2008 from 2007 and we all know it usually takes three years for a WR to fully blossom. I think big things are in store from him this season, and I do think the eventual switch to Henne is only going to help a player with his type of skills. He is a WR that lives on the long ball, and Henne will be able to do that play better then Pennington.

I don't think 80 catches for Ginn is unrealistic thinking for the 2009 season.

Ginn is a victim of being picked too high, which has created unreal expectations for him, but wasn't his fault. He will probably never live up to his draft status, but that doesn't mean he can't be a productive player for us. I personally don't ever see him being an elite or even #1 WR, but I think he can be a very good and even dangerous complementary player. Hopefully, the triumverate will add some other threats, either w/ these draft picks or elsewhere, that will allow Ginn to reach his potential without the weight of the offense on his shoulders.

I like Ginn, i agree he has improved steadily from year to year and i expect it to continue into this year. Hes had a year to work with this new offense and with pennington. Like people before me already said he was on a crappy team his rookie year with all types of problems. Last year he made some good plays but theres still things that he needs improvement on but from year one to year two u can tell how much better he was understanding the NFL and running routes and stuff. I think he will turn into a great receiver, some people take longer than others. Some might come in the league and become a "star" or number 1 receiver right away, others take some adjusting and i think this year could be Ginn's breakout season.

I think Bess adjusted really well his first season and i expect big things from Bess as well this year, i think he'll contribute even more now that he'll be a starter at either the #2 spot or in the slot. Last year he didnt start gettin alot of receptions until after Cam went down and he filled his shoes well, especially for a rookie, an undrafted one(idk how he went undrafted but im so happy we got him).

I've long believed that the dislike and resentment directed toward Ginn has less to do with his productivity improvements and more with that he was a reach at #9 and his name's not Brady Quinn (for most) -or Patrick Willis (for some like me). There's no denying that he has upped his game, is better coached, but we really won't know if he can become a lethal weapon until he's the target of a QB who can exploit his greatest strength.

Ginn may have been a reach in the eyes of fans and talking media heads, but it wasn't like he was someone who was going to be available in the late portion of the first round. There was numerous talk that the Houston Texans who had the #10 overall pick were planning on taking Ted Ginn before Miami snatched him at #9. It was only a "reach" because it is not what analysts predicted. It was just like the Pat White selection with the #44 pick in the second round. Some call it a "reach" because they had him on their board in the third round. However, look at it through the eyes of the team's making the picks and he probably wouldn't have lasted past pick #50. There was talk that New England was targeting him with a second round pick.

The talk is always that Miami passed on Quinn take Ginn. Didn't 8 teams before Miami also pass on Quinn? Didn't 12 teams after Miami also pass on him? Why does Miami get anointed as the team that passed on him? So far, Ginn has had a MUCH better pro career then Quinn. Also, if we would have drafted Quinn, then Chad Henne probably wouldn't be here. I personally think Henne was a better prospect coming out of college then Quinn. Quinn just lucked into a bad QB class to get rated so high.

I do agree that Patrick Willis would have been a great pick, but it is very easy to second guess after seeing results years down the road.

You get no argument from me about Quinn. I was relieved when I didn't hear his name called as expected, but kind of shocked when it dawned on me it was a guy in a foot boot...and not Willis. On paper it made sense to grab the perceived game-breaker first and the accurate, strong-armed guy who'd throw to him next. Unfortunately, like life, things don't always go as planned. And without second-guessing, all team forums, including FH would have about 50% fewer threads. :chuckle:

Ginn has no choice to step up and show is worth on this dolphins team and i'm sure
he will but i still think we need somebody on the opposite side like MR. Boldin
it would make ginn life much easier please tuna make this happen i'm sorry if i'm
repeating myself but it makes perfect sense if we get Boldin.

Ginn has shown huge improvement last year and I expect to see him improve even more this year. I think it was noted that at the OTA this year Ginn was nothing like he was last year. He knew what he was supposed to do where he was supposed to be and was flying everywhere.

His progress has been steady. Each game he plays the more experience leads to the eventual break through. He is not there yet but there are signs that he can be the number one receiver we need. The FO apparently thinks so if you look at what has been done or not done so far this offseason.
