Dolphins re-sign Tyrel Dodson

I’m a fan of this kid, this signing and of Miami’s measured approach so far this offseason. For the people complaining, I file it under “Regardless of how Miami decided to attack the offseason, the fanbase would find reasons to complain”.

Heading into the offseason, my biggest worry was an irresponsible spending spree that mortgaged Miami’s future while Grier/McD tried to save their jobs today. There’s absolutely no reason to worry that Miami being fairly quiet means that Grier and McD already know they’re safe regardless of 2025-26’s eventual outcome. It’s year 4 together and if it ends up flaming out, Ross will make a move. They probably won’t be the right moves and he’ll most likely replace both men with people who are somehow worse at their jobs, but he’ll still make a move. That’s pretty much how Ross rolls.

It’s crazy to me that 99% of Fin Fans still bicker with each other over the merits of guys like Grier and McD when they’re not even close to our biggest issue. As long as Ross owns this team, this is what we’re getting. It’s been proven for over 2 decades now. Without a completely new direction in ownership, this franchise is adrift to nowhere.
The last paragraph. Shall we file it under the "Regardless of how the team performs, it's all on Ross again this year"? Lol

I thought Dodson played well his first game for us and it was all downhill after that.

As soon as this team has an on-field highlight under his ownership, I’ll be the first to give him props. He’s really good at refurbing stadiums and building state of the art practice facilities but for 2+ decades he’s been really bad at hiring smart football people. Not to mention his complete disregard for the rules as he illegally tampers with players and coaches while costing his franchise draft picks.

Basically, a lifelong NY Jets fan purchased the Miami Dolphins and turned them into the South Beach Jets.

Shocker.

I’m fine with how they handled free agency. We never had the cap room to go berserk and we’ve always known we have a large number of voids.

The huge overpays are normally problematic and on the rare occasion you use them, they just need to be tactical. Our best bet is to get solid players on the upswing. Like buying a stock where you think you’re catching good value.

This is all predicated on sound drafting based on solid analytical criteria. Then, resigning core players at least one year ahead of time while they still have risk. That’s when the team has leverage. If you wait and take the risk away from the player, then the price goes way, way up.

If we can get a couple of DTs, then we can go into the draft on a BPA mode in the first few rounds, and then get targeted later. If you go BPA, you get a core of players with a long term view.

The best example is Portland drafting Sam Bowie instead of Michael Jordan because they already had Clyde Drexler. Stack good players and the long game will work out. Collect more and more blue chip players.

I swear sometimes FinHeaven is one of the saddest places on the Internet.
FH is reaching a tipping point where the inmates are taking over the asylum. Fortunately there are a few sound stalwarts (Fever, Clean, 007, Jameswsr, and others) who provide a bastion against the insanity trolls/lemmings.

“My daddy always told me to just do the best you knew how and tell the truth. He said there was nothin to set a man’s mind at ease like wakin up in the morning and not havin to decide who you were. And if you done somethin wrong just stand up and say you done it and say you’re sorry and get on with it. Don’t haul stuff around with you.”

I like that quote.

I have a cedar tree in the yard that my dad planted 75 years ago. Still going strong. Unfortunately, the rhododendron he planted about the same time has died. The old Chinese woman who owns the rental house next door sent me a letter last year after a wind storm saying she wanted me to remove the cedar tree because she was worried it could fall on her rental house. Won't say it to me in person though. I ignored the letter. That tree will be there long after she's in the ground and at least till I am.

Guys after a disappointing year of course this place really got negative

Can they turn it around ? I hope so

We shall see but I do appreciate you guys keeping it real

There you go... it ISN'T a smart or successful strategy. Again, look at the New Orleans chart that I posted and you will see that "pushing the costs out forever" has led to a team that can't be cut... and severely limits their ability to draw new talent through 'free' agency.

Surprisingly, Loomis has a degree in accounting. I wonder if he ever worked for our federal government. ;-)
