"One week at a time," Gibson said. "I'm taking my time to be healthy when I come back to make sure I have no setbacks."
The Dolphins are installing a new offense, which will ironically be the third playbook Gibson has to learn in the past three years. Being shelved means Gibson isn't involved with the on-field installation. However, Gibson doesn't feel like he's falling behind.

from the article:

Last season Gibson was on the verge of having a breakout season, contributed 30 receptions for 326 yards and three touchdowns in his seven games he played before destroying his knee in his first half of Miami's 27-17 loss to the Patriots. Gibson scored all three of his touchdowns in his final two games, and it was clear that quarterback Ryan Tannehill was beginning to rely on him more. Then the injury happened.

Real shame as he was fast becoming a go to guy for Tannehill. Hope he comes back strong and healthy. Landry is a high pick so his main competition is Matthews , the other rookie and Binns I guess.

Serious short term ir candidate...makes a ton of sense to me

Lot of money to pay someone to sit on the IR but receivers do get nicked up and it would be nice to have him in reserve if needed.
Question: When can you bring back someone off IR ?

Greasy said practice week 6 active week 8...basically with our bye week he practices after the bye and he's active the last 9 weeks or you carry him on your 53...also gives you time to get in season looks at Landry and Mathews and weigh your options...

This teams got slot options though so we will see...he doesn't make enough money where I think cutting him makes much sense...

In '12 per PFF Gibson led the league in WR 3rd down and TD completion percentages - and nothing he's done for us before going down last season would argue against his dependability or that his recovery is not well-worth waiting for.

just a reminder

Dude was ballin the two games before his injury. Remember that play where Ryan was forced out of the pocket and scrambled left to find a streaking Gibson across the middle for a huge play ? Cann't remember the game but it was a thing of beauty.

On field chemistry and know how > over hyped rookie WRs who have yet to play a down in the NFL.

Really want to see Gibson back.

That is correct. Also believe the rule changed for this year that you can have more than just one player on short term IR.

That designated player is eligible to return to practice if he has been on the IR list for at least six weeks from the date he was placed on Reserve. He is eligible to return to the active list if he has been on the IR list for at least eight weeks from the date he is placed on Injured Reserve.

After he left the first New England game the game changed IMO. The sort term IR is probably the best for him to come back 100 percent or as close as possible.

Stick him on IR, feature Landry and Mathews the trade deadline is also week 8. Activate Gibson and trade Mathews to the highest bidder.

omar is calling his injury an ACL but it was a patella injury....what a disaster this kelly guy is

No one loved Gibson more than I. Loved the signing and knew he would be a great upgrade and was very happy with the start he had, but having said that it also shows how good Mathews is. Mathews actually had slightly better numbers per game than did Gibson, while playing the same position. Both Gibson and Mathews are still growing into the position and both have not yet reached their ceiling. If everything truely is worked out between the staff and Mathews, we have two of the best slot WRs in the league.

Then we draft Landry. Where does he fit in?? He too was projected to be a plug and play slot WR. I know he can also play on the outside, but it certainly looks like we have 5 WRs that are certain roster spots. If someone like Binns (who would be a great redzone threat) or Damien Williams, or the other rookie has a great camp, do we keep 6 or do we try and trade one of them to a team with an extra LB, CB or OG ??

You need 5 WRs that can play in this league. All the injuries we had last year proved that, but we have a lot of WRs that seem to fit the same mold. Would be nice if one of them were a great kick returner or tall redzone threat, but they all seem to be a lot alike. Should be interesting to see how it all plays out. Can't wait for the start of camp.

I've seen too many players ruin their careers by forcing themselves back too early and their injury never getting better. Camarillo was one of those. Unfortunately there is so much competition to make and keep an NFL roster spot that these guys don't ever feel like they have the time to work back slowly. I like that the Dolphins will have some competition for the receiver spot, but I hope that's just them being prepared in the event that he is not ready rather than them trying to replace Gibson.
