Dolphins Refuse to Fix the Line

I’m impressed you took the time to respond to that. I just started belly laughing when he called out someone for “commenting on everything like the world’s biggest expert.”

The irony is scorching.

I could understand his being surprised that I didn't watch all the games and felt it was a reasonable question that deserved a reasonable answer.

As for the hyperbole that followed, well that's a style of posting that seems to be getting more common. Let's just call it "Poetic License" and let those posters "stew in their own juices". - LOL

I was tempted to respond to your post by saying:
"Those that think they know it all really piss off those of us who really do know it all".

Sometimes I just can't help myself. - LOL

I completely agree we didn't do enough on the o line. I just knew there would only be one linemen drafted. I think we should've drafted more. I hate that we traded up and lost our 3rd because I think that third rounder should've been used for another o linemen.

Daniels: could be a good signing but this is exactly what Grier does. He brings in players coming off huge injuries or is often injured and thinks that's enough. He literally did this again here with this FA signing. I'd bet money Daniel's misses games or doesn't finish the season.

Borom: do I even need to say anything about this other than this is embarrassing?

Depth: we have none. Before the draft I said we needed eight new o line players. Two new starting guards, one starting quality LT and ALL NEW BACKUPS. Now I realize that's un realistic but that is what's needed. We need depth. We have non. How can anyone say they are confident in any of our linemen other than our center? Jackson is cool but he's hurt a lot. So 1.5 linemen can be counted on. Lol

I understand Rome wasn't built in a day but at this pace, it won't be built for another 20 years. Ffs.

I'm like every FH member - I wanted the Ol FIXED. That was my wish. Real world isn't like that. Grier, Mcd, and staff decided, correctly, to get what they consider 5 quality starters. They made a lot of good decisions there. It's difficult for any team to acquire OL to reinforce the OL *AND* upgrade depth along with all other needs for starters. Yeah, I want depth, but I understand it could take a couple of yrs

When I can't watch the game, I follow it on NFL Scores. I can see the teams' trajectory (overall performance).

When I do get to see the games, I follow the ball and so I miss a lot of the detail of the OL play, but not the results. Sometimes, on well concealed running plays it takes two or three replays before I can actually follow the runner with the ball. Arcane was particularly hard for me to follow.

When we were running on 3rd and short and not making it, I could see the problem - there were no holes being opened up for our runners.

As for our passing game, when I could watch a game, the camera wasn't giving me a full view of defensive backfield because they were focusing on where they thought the ball was going to go. Without seeing all the defensive positioning - and especially any positional changes during the play that would lead to an interrupted or intercepted pass until the last second when a defensive player showed up out of nowhere was aggravating.

I have some seriously burdensome medical expenses that limit my funds for entertainment, so anything that engages me physically, like walking, yardwork or target shooting gets priority over sedentary stuff like watching television - and that is why i don't get to see many games.

Even going to sports bars is a problem for me, since my acute dietary restrictions limit me to 32 ounces of liquid intake a day and I find it hard to make a lunch last two hours.

I hope that helps you understand why my access to games to watch is so limited.

What little I do get to see has shown me that there are many posters here who get so hung up on some previous bad play by some players that they don't see or just don't credit to the good plays those players make.

Case in point - Tannehill.
I watched every single game, I watched the all-22 for most of the games till i got too tired of watching the same crap. I specifically watched him on most of the plays, he was as bad in the beginning of the season as he was in game 17, constantly flopping and flailing around, getting pushed back on run and pass plays, Brewer and Jackson constantly having to shade over to help him as well keeping the backs and TEs overloaded to his side because they know hes gonna get abused every play. Its really hard to function with a player that is that bad, he really makes it more difficult to run an offense because hes so limited athletically and has some of the worst contact balance and functional play strength Ive ever seen in a guard.

Look at his PFF ratings from game 1 to game 17, his best game was actually his first one then all downhill since.

So he actually got worse as the season went on and his lowest graded game was in the last part of the season

Isiah Wynn did not play well when called on last year. At best he was no better the Eichenberry. His PFF numbers were pitiful.

Time will tell but the measurables suggest Zabel is no savior. Arms too short for tackle, a bit light for guard. He could become a great center but that's the one position our line doesn't really need right now. Saying he played all the positions doesn't mean much if he is only really suited to one of them. I mean, Savainnea played a lot of OT but we have no illusions about him playing that spot aside from emergencies. Meanwhile we don't know if there were trade partners so would you be taking Zabel at 13?
I would have traded down a few spots. He went at 18 and I don't know if everyone expected Seattle to take him there, or not. I don't think Zabel is too light for G at 315.

Its not even about wanting more, its about making the correct decisions in the first place, Borom should never have been someone they considered bringing in with his body of work. There were plenty of other guys that got similar contracts and werent horrible like he was the past couple years, but our FO looks at that and sees an opportunity i guess?

They had a great chance to pick a useful OL that slipped like Mbow and signing a higher tier FA so we would never have to be in the position of having to rely on Eich or Borom.
I'm okay with Borom as a backup. When there was talk here that Borom could challenge for one of the guard spots, that definitely didn't sit well with me. I'm glad Miami drafted Savaiinaea.

I agree there were probably better backup/depth options, but this coaching staff may have felt Borom was a good fit.

Hopefully, the Dolphins will have fewer injuries on the offensive line and we won't see many backups getting playing time. Most fans around the league are talking about the lack of offensive linemen league wide.

Fair enough but we don't know if Grier tried to find a trade down or not. Question remains would you have taken Zabel at 13 if it came to that?

I’m not a pff guy but he’s dreadful.

Wasn't the biggest knock on Borom was that he was playing Tackle, where he sucked, and he is more suited to Guard? If that is the case, he may not be a completely lost cause. Stick him as a backup guard.

Who was the last UDFA on the oline we picked up that’s actually played and started their rookie year? Seems to be a few of those every year and we miss out.
Robert Jones started the last game of his rookie season, 2021, at RT.

They made a point of mentioning how he played at LG vs Buffalo in 2022, as if it was a determining factor. He did not even play the full game (42 of 62 offensive snaps), and while he looked better than he did at OT, his performance was barely passable. That game was his one and only OG start in four years.
I was thinking we chose to sign him over the other Bears' UFA OLs based on this??
