Miami Dolphins defensive end charged with marijuana possession

Miami Dolphins player Leon Orr was arrested Tuesday in Collier County on marijuana-possession charges, the Naples Daily News reported.

The 24-year-old defensive end was released on $7,000 bond, according to the report.

The Dolphins learned of Orr’s arrest during the team’s Wednesday practice, pulled him off the field and promptly cut him.

“We’re in the middle of the season,” Dolphins coach Adam Gase explained. “We have priorities and this is the No. 1 priority. Guys who have other priorities, they can go about their business somewhere else.”

Orr’s BMW was stopped on Interstate 75 because of tinted windows. During the traffic stop, deputies smelled marijuana and found drugs stuffed in Orr’s pants and in his car, the Daily News reported.

Coach Adam Gase told reporters that the Dolphins found out about the arrest during Wednesday's practice and immediately waived Orr.

"We're in the middle of the season. We have priorities and this is the No. 1 priority. If guys have other priorities, they can go about their business somewhere else," Gase said.

"For us, the one thing that we do talk about quite a bit is being invested to each other. That's what it's really about. There's a lot of people putting in a lot of work -- players, coaches and staff members. Everybody is counting on everybody to do the right thing. That's really the only way you have a chance to be successful. If we have people pulling in different directions and this isn't their top priority, we'd rather not be around those people."

Risking his football career over some wacky weed. How wasn't he caught during drug testing?

If that's all it took, why did't someone stuff a sack in Turner's car and make an anonymous call a long time ago?????????

Cut in the middle of practice

Gase has no time for your ****

TBH, this is probably a good thing for the team as it sends a strong message and it wasn't an impact player!

Appreciate Gase all the more for being so decisive and expressing the rationale behind his dismissal in no uncertain terms.

OTOH, I have dark tinted windows also and occasionally travel I-75 through Alligator Alley. hmmmmm

Same here, but my windows are the darkest possible within the legal limit, and I've never been stopped for it. I suspect Leon's windows were too dark and didn't follow Florida code on tinted windows.

About the marijuana charge though...... Florida just legalized medical marijuana, so it won't be long until some NFL players might be able to get a prescription for it and legally possess it in Florida. And they can claim a medical use for it, as prescribed by a doctor. And then what is the NFL going to do?

Marijuana is still banned by the league and is a no go, even medical. I'm about 100% sure.

Seantrel Henderson in Buffalo is going through this right now. I hope he challenges his suspension.

Well this opens a roster spot. They'll need to fill it. So I say promote Warmsley from the PS for DT rotation and keep the other DT's and DE's fresh throughout the game would make sense. Gase already had a beat on it but he has a few things to look at before pulling the trigger. God, I am man-crushing on Gase he is the best thing that has happened to the Miami Dolphins seriously. He is a no nonsense coach and tells you how it will be or you're out the "f"in door!! Love it. GO DOLPHINS!!!

Damn he's dumb af to smoke and drive. Possession is only a citation in Miami

Edit: Nevermind it was in collier. But FHP don't play around on alligator alley.
And absolutely rookie mistake putting it down your pants
