REPORT CARD VS. BEARS

PASSING OFFENSE
B-plus -- Despite throwing two interceptions, misfiring on too many deep throws and completing only 50 percent of his passes, QB Joey Harrington managed the game effectively and delivered a couple of sharply thrown touchdown passes to Marty Booker and Wes Welker. His third touchdown pass was basically a jump ball that Chris Chambers snatched from the defender. Still, too many drops by receivers, particularly Chambers. Harrington showed some elusiveness in the pocket, something that Daunte Culpepper was unable to do.

I think that's a fair assessment.

Good read. I like the part about the variety of blitz packages keeping Grossman confused. I remember thinking the same thing when i was watching the game because they came with pressure from everywhere. I like the fact that they were willing to blitz Will Allen and cause some commotion in the backfield.

Ya know what bothers me...Zach Thomas blitzed on every other play, and he didn't get one sack, knockdown, or hurry.

I mean he's a small guy and we all know he gets bounced around on the Blitz. They keep sending him on the blitz to keep teams honest and guessing by sending him on the blitz so they probably won't stop doing it.

We like Zona of all teams exposed that Grossman will make mistakes when he is caught off guard. Having watched partions of three Bears games this year, thanks to Direct TV, just an honest opinion from not being an interested party in the Bears he appears to not handle the blitz well. A big part of his success has been the excellent pass protection that his OL game him in their better games. When pressure comes he goes into almost Jim Everett motion. He can't read when the blitz is coming and smart Defenses who can disguise intentions can take advantage of this.

Also I noticed a tendency of him not using good footwork and a couple of times throwing, not passing, off his back foot. Bad mechanics and pulling the trigger too quick leading to misfires on short passes. Also, this past game he could have really used Berrian's presence.

Our pass rush was a key reason we won no doubt. Our pass rush can be fierce when we use it correctly and are effective. A not so mobile qb like Grossman can be hurried into INTs and other miscues. The D needs to do this once again against KC. Bring on the rush and force the qb mistakes.

A good assessment. They'll get the A when Harrington calms down a bit with the turnovers and the WR's starting catching more consistently.

you can't send a 220 lb guy up aginst a 300 lb. guy and get much results ....zach is what he is if the lineman get on zach he dosen't get tackles zach should thank traylor bowens gardner for a great career

Maybe it's just me, but watching the game, replay, and the tape of the game, I doubt Zach is even 220lbs. He doesn't look any bigger than our safeties.

If Zach is such a lightweight, how does he make more tackles than any other player on our D? His problem seems to be lack of speed on the blitz.

I don't really understand how a guy that never drove the ball more than 30 yards on any drive that scored a td, was lucky to come away with only 2 picks, couldn't manage to get anything going with the offense at all unless the D put us close to the endzone, had 137 yards passing and a 50% completion ratio can possibly get a B+. If you took any starting qb from any other team and gave him what Miami gave Joey, they would have not only done the same thing but most likely would have been better. The only bright point of JH's entire game was that incredible bullett for the first td. That was an awesome throw.
