Dolphins rookie CB Xavien Howard on QB Russell Wilson: ‘I just have to make them pay’

MIAMI GARDENS – Cornerback Xavien Howard knows the drill. The Dolphins’ rookie expects to have a target on his back when he makes his debut Sunday against the Seahawks and quarterback Russell Wilson.

“I expect them to come at me,” he said, before adding:
“I just have to make them pay.”
Howard may have missed three weeks of training camp with a knee injury but that didn’t stop the Dolphins from naming the rookie a starter for Sunday’s opener.

I have spoken briefly with Xavien Howard a couple of times and the thing that really impresses me is his focus and self confidence. One of the most confident and self assured young players I have ever met. We are very thin at Cornerback but Vance Joseph's speciality is developing DBs. The Dolphins would not be throwing Xavien in the deep end like this, if Joseph didn't think he was ready. Howard will make some mistakes but he is a big CB and he is pretty quick. Since Maxwell plays the right side exclusively, Howard will be on the left. This is a big challenge but we'll see how he goes.

From the very limited amount of time I have seen he seemed physical.

Have a good feeling about him very much looking forward to watching him play sunday

We have to be ready to take some lumps this year and pr anot a little next year. But if he can learn by being thrown into the fire and utilize those physicals tools it'll all be worth it for this franchise in the long run.

Not once during his play vs the Titans did Howard properly jam a WR or redirect a route. Gonna be a long day in Seattle for him. Maybe he could hit up a dispensary afterwards to forget the debacle.

When I first opened this thread, I thought "Oh boy."

But now that I think about it, we never heard Jamar Taylor of Will Davis speaking like this.

More power to the kid - hope he has a great first game.

Lets just hope he isnt the second coming of terrell buckley and constantly goes for the int instead of just stopping his guy or breaking up the pass. Buckly got burned on a LOT of big plays the first few years of his career, especially in miami always going for the pic but missing and then watching his guy run to the endzone for the score.

Xaviers comment about "i have to make them pay" imediately brought up t-buck and his unbridled penchant for making the other team pay. Just good, solid fundamental football is what i want to see from him.

Physically, the kids a freak. I think he'll get beat, but he'll also so make some plays. I rather see a young rookie with upside get beat than a 10 year vet that's a "so called" pro bowler any day. Howard's gonna ball!
