Rookie fifth-round pick Davon Godchaux played ahead of Jordan Phillips as the first-team defensive tackle, opposite Ndamukong Suh, for the eighth consecutive day on Sunday and continues to impress everyone.

“He’s explosive, good with his hands and really sudden off the ball,” said Dolphins guard/center Jake Brendel, who has tried to block him in practice.

Great news. Depth at the DT position is one of the biggest concerns this team has. With that being said, if Jordan Phillips can't beat out a 5th round rookie for the starting job, he may not belong in the NFL.

I don't think Philips will be with Miami past the 2017 season. But I'm hopeful they'll find a 4th rotational DT, so they can cut Philips this season. I remember reading about the draft room erupting with cheers when Philips was drafted. It's funny how it's the players drafted unceremoniously in 2017, that just might replace him just 3 years later. As for Oguike, you just can't teach the kind of tenacity and heart this kid has. He's relentless. And loves the game. I may be speaking too soon, but this 2017 UDFA class looks really good so far.

Either that bro or the 5th round pick has more fire and desire.

LMAO, Phillips is clearly STRUGGLING! Hopefully we can get someone in there who is consistent and doesn't STRUGGLE a large portion of his snaps!

Maybe that's why the team hasn't gone the veteran route. Good to hear the rookies are progressing. I think that's one positive we are getting from the Adam Gase hiring. Player development seems to finally be happening in Miami.

Case of Phillips having the talent but not the desire to work at his craft. Sad when he has two Pro Bowler's to watch and work with (Suh+Wake). If that doesn't get him motivated nothing will. Next man up.
